The fashion and beauty industry can be hard on Mother Nature. Fabric,
raw materials, packaging, processing, production, and shipping can
leave a lasting environmental footprint (even if it is in the shape of a
six-inch heel). Thankfully, many companies, brands, and retailers are
adopting environmentally friendly and sustainable practices in an effort
to decrease their impact on the environment. Looking good and doing
good has never been so rewarding.
The family owned and operated
drugstore recycles cardboard, Styrofoam, plastic bags, electronics, and
now beauty packaging. Their recent collaboration with TerraCycle is
aimed at reducing the waste that the beauty industry produces. Drop off
your empty beauty packaging at their recycling collection boxes located
in all of their stores (Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, and
Saskatchewan), and TerraCycle will turn them into items like park
benches and garbage bins.
In addition to using as little
packaging as possible, select LUSH cosmetics products like their bath
bombs, massage bars, and solid shampoo bars are available without any
packaging at all. LUSH pots and bottles are made from BPA-Free 100 per
cent post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic, their bags are made of 100
per cent post-consumer recycled paper, and all LUSH products are
biodegradable. LUSH also has an in-store recycling program: when you
return five of their signature black pots to any of their stores, they
will give you a free Fresh Face Mask.
In addition to using
post-consumer recycled materials in all their packaging, they pioneered
the Aveda Caps Recycling program. This unique program recycles rigid
polypropylene plastic caps usually found on plastic containers like
shampoo, pop, water, and laundry detergent bottles. Aveda then grinds
them up and molds them into new caps that are used for Aveda products.

and jars (regardless of brand) to an Origins retail store or department
store counter for recycling. All returned packaging is recycled or used
towards energy recovery; the program is available in Canada, The United
States, Taiwan, Hong Kong, The United Kingdom, Malaysia, and Singapore.
For
its diminutive size, Newtown Borough is home to many beautiful places
of worship. This year, the Newtown Historic Association will feature one
of them - St Luke’s Episcopal Church on Washington Avenue - during its
Holiday House Tour on Saturday, Dec. 1.
Once inside St Luke’s,
tour-goers will be transported to a much earlier time - a time when St
Luke’s was unheated, when the box pews sported doors to keep out the
drafts, when parishioners brought tin foot warmers filled with hot coals
to stave off the cold and when church pews were rented to help support
the parish.
The church’s altarpiece, The Coronation of the
Virgin, a copy of the 1485 original by Andrea Della Robbia, is the focal
point of the sanctuary. The heavy plaster sculpture was created from a
first generation cast owned by the Boston Museum and given by the Reeder
family to celebrate the centennial of St Luke’s. Unfortunately for the
museum, the molds were damaged beyond repair in the casting process,
making St Luke’s copy the only one of its kind in the United States.
Della Robbia’s terra cotta original is in a convent chapel in Siena,
Italy.
On tour day, visitors are invited to stop by St Luke’s
for the history, but also enjoy all of the planned activities at the
Church.
There will be performances by the church organist and
the children’s choir, a mid-day soup luncheon on the second floor of the
Parish House, a fresh greens sale outside and a Christmas Charity
Bazaar. Proceeds from the bazaar will go to local charities. The bazaar
will include homemade baked items, handmade craft, local art,Howick are

Cast
in different moulds, the spotlight has been firmly on these three men,
who were differently but closely related to Bal Thackeray, at the centre
stage of political transition in Maharashtra. It is their next step
that would decide the fate of Shiv Sena,We offers a wide variety of

Though
probably Shiv Sainiks would want to see both the cousins unite under
the flag of Shiv Sena, political analysts believe that an electoral
understanding between it and the MNS probably would be a more realistic
possibility. However, it would be suicidal for both the Sena and the MNS
if they chose to stay aloof.
Bal Thackeray's passing away might
open the doors for a compromise formula where Raj could become the face
of the party and Uddhav plays as the strategist working in the
background as he has done mostly. Both could even share power by taking
responsibility for different regions of the state.
Whatever they
do next, it has the potential to alter the course of Maharashtra
politics. Their coming together would make Sena stronger and consolidate
"Marathi manoos" vote bank, giving the party a handsome chance of
storming into power riding a sympathy wave.
However, if Raj and Uddhav are driven further apart by their egos and personal ambitions,Soft Floor tiles

analysts. It is certain to start a drift of hardliners within the Sena
fold to the camp of Raj Thackeray, who is seen by many as the worthy
successor to Bal Thackeray's brand of politics. The original modern lamps
lamp with its high-gloss lacquered metal shade is known for its
concentrated downward light. Any split in Marathi manoos votes would
strengthen hands of the rivals, Congress and NCP.
There has been
a strong perception that Raj was a better bet to carry forward Bal
Thackeray's fiery politics of regional identity. His leadership and
organisational skills certainly boost his case.
