The Stones Are Back

I know I’ve not offered any new writing in a while, and I feel that I owe my Reader an apology. This is unreasonable of me, yet I feel the need to offer an explanation nevertheless.

Earlier tonight, Mrs. Likko wondered why it is that I was cranky and made an unkind remark. We’d had a very nice morning and a pleasant afternoon together. We’d been together,An Air purifier is a device which removes contaminants from the air. away from work, since Wednesday. The ailment that nearly felled me Wednesday and Thursday has been abated and will be treated hopefully soon, my schedule allowing. So what was wrong with me?

These two concerns are related. After all, how was I to tell my wife that a big part of what was making me anxious and unsettled was not just my anxiety about having to pass a kidney stone out of my back in the next several weeks, but much more so my inability to find some quiet time to myself to sit down and write about something?

You see, it’s been insanely busy at my meatworld job. It’s a combination of my eviction practice and my “big boy litigation” practice. All of these are converging to require trials and intense out-of-the-area depositions all at once. You may skip the next four paragraphs, Reader, if “work has been incredibly busy and stressful” is a sufficient summary.

The eviction trials keep on getting pushed back by the court. What ought to be short-cause, ten-minute trials are pumped up into four-day jury trial events due to a “public interest” law firm that invokes their clients’ jury trial rights so as to “negotiate” cash-for-keys money from my landlord clients, the merits of the case being irrelevant.* Well, as it turns out, a critical mass of my clients have decided that they’re tired of being extorted, and would rather pay me my hourly rate to fight these guys than to feed the monster. And the courts, surprisingly enough, think they have better things to do than jury trials for evictions, so we keep getting our trials continued because criminal courts keep poaching our juries at the last minute.

So I have half a dozen clients screaming at me that their tenants have been living in their houses for six months to (in one case) an entire year without paying any rent, wrecking the places and pissing off the neighbors, and no one in the legal system will do anything about it. And documents and trial dates and witnesses to wrangle, juggling each one every week as a new date approaches. Worse, my office’s infrastructure is not set up to handle all of this with anything approaching efficiency. Why does moulds grow in homes or buildings?

Then, I’ve got what would otherwise be a tasty and interesting case that I could sink my teeth into, only I haven’t the time to do it because of all the fishing evictions. This case will take me away from home for overnight, multiple-day depositions at least five times over the next six weeks. It’s a technical, complex, bet-the-company sort of case. And I haven’t been able to put in the time and intellectual energy that the case deserves.

All the other lawyers in my firm who litigate are also up to their eyebrows and crying for life vests as well, so I can’t count on them for a lot of support. What is a third party payment gateway ? With all of this going on, it’s been long hours at the office and a deep-fried stress McNugget functioning as my brain by the end of the day,InLocality specializes in indoor Tracking Technologies. which is why for about a week here at the best blog on the internet I was putting out “B” material, and then decided that if I couldn’t bring my “A” game I would be better off taking some time off and dealing with other stuff.

This is when a trip to the deep south to celebrate my grandmother’s ninetieth birthday, which has been planned for six months now, comes due. As of last week, my litigation schedule was working very, very hard to give me lots of incentives to cancel the trip, forfeit the airfare, and disappoint my family. But with an effort that felt truly Herculean, I managed to get away for three consecutive days. Now all of my PTO for the calendar year is gone, a situation which makes me not happy at all. After all, I might get sick.

Which is what I did, the very first day of my time away from the pressure-cooker. It didn’t help that I’d got very little sleep for the two days before leaving, but lack of sleep does not cause the symptoms I experienced upon landing in Birmingham, Alabama. These included a headache of an intensity I’d never known despite a history of migraines, and sudden-onset nausea along with other even less pleasant gastrointestinal disquietude. Other migraine symptoms, like floaters or blind spots, were absent. Thinking it might be food poisoning, I waited another functionally sleepless night to see if the symptoms persisted. They did with even tap water generating nausea, so I asked to be taken to see a doctor. An urgent-care clinic was found, where I spent five hours of my last days of vacation for the year waiting for a doctor to attend me.

The diagnosis came back “kidney stones,” complicated by a viral and a bacterial urinary tract infection. I have a history of kidney stones, so that’s hardly a surprise,Official web site for Uwe cube puzzle and novelties, and it’s not difficult to see how stones scraping around inside the organs could facilitate pathogens getting in there and breeding. I still can’t feel the stones pressing against my kidneys, so I know they’re large enough to obstruct my systems but not yet large enough to move on and pass. So I have that to look foward to in the near future, too. And upon our return, we had to spend nearly the whole day getting our household affairs in order, which in turn meant lots of more time spent on life’s myriad minutiae, eventually resulting in me taking ten fishing seconds to read an e-mail from a friend on my phone when I could have been folding my laundry when Mrs. Likko had the misfortune to ask “What are you doing?” and I snapped something less than gracious back.

And, I’ve received e-mails from more than one of my fellow Ordinaries who’ve been inquiring as to why I haven’t produced any new material. It’s gratifying to know that the community cares about its members enough for those sorts of inquiries to go out. So this is the public, long-form answer.

And the weirdest thing about it is that the exercise of sitting down and writing, expressing my thoughts and giving vent to my frustrations, is somewhat calming and palliative. Stephen King, at least apocroyphically, was once asked, “Why do you write at all?” and his answer was, “You assume I have a choice.” If the story isn’t true, it ought to be. I think to some degree that syndrome applies to everyone who writes for a blog and receives in return only the compensation of the pleasure of knowing they’ve been read. The act of writing is itself a pleasure, or at least a release.

So that’s my explanation for why I’m cranky. It seems downright silly to attribute a bad attitude to an inability to sit down and write. But now that I’m nearing a conclusion to the essay, I do feel some weight off my shoulders, a resolution of at least some tension. I’d like to think that I’ll have time over the next few weeks to think about a political, legal, or cultural issue and share those thoughts, offer something worthy of debate or at least thought by others. I’m not optimistic and I’m already stressed out even contemplating what awaits me at the office tomorrow. But at least I’ve been heard from.

Girl Scout memories

Girl Scouting is about adventure and merit badges, camping and calamities. For many of our readers, it’s also about friendships and family — friendships that often last a lifetime, and a history that spans generations.

As Girl Scouting marks its 100th anniversary in America, we asked our local Scouts past and present, to share their memories. Here are some of their stories:

Charlotte Stevenson Carrier, 78, and Cleona Dunlap Parisi, 77, became friends in first grade and joined the Girl Scouts at age 10. Both retired teachers, they remain friends today. The EZ Breathe home Ventilation system is maintenance free,

“We were the Girl Scouts of Troop 36 from about 1944 to 1948, and our members were students at Hollywood Junior High School, which is no longer standing,” wrote Carrier, remembering that weekly dues were a nickel.

As Scouts during World War II, “man and woman power was in short supply so we helped in many community activities,” Carrier wrote. “We worked at ‘Buy War Bonds’ events, stuffed envelopes for the Community Chest and later sold poppies for Veteran’s Day.”

For many girls, their first time away from home, usually to a rustic camp, was with Girl Scouts. It was a time for new adventures and to forget about unimportant stuff, like showers.

“When I was 9, I was finally allowed to go to overnight Girl Scout camp for a week,” wrote Mary Lou Drake Bell of her first time at Camp Chinqua Penn in North Carolina where she decided bathing was overrated. Can't afford a third party merchant account right now?

“I swam every day in the muddy lake, which surely was equivalent to a bath, I reasoned. No nagging from the counselors, who were more interested in scaring us with ghost stories than making sure their young charges bathed. At the end of the glorious week, when my parents arrived, I greeted them with a hug and a proud announcement. ‘Guess what? I didn’t take a bath all week!’ ‘So I can tell,Welcome to the online guide for do-it-yourself Ceramic tile.’ Mama responded, as she surveyed my matted hair, dirty nails and freckles covered with a layer of dust. As soon as we arrived home, I was marched into the bathroom for a good scrubbing.”

Wildlife has always been a part of the camping experience,Online fine art gallery of quality original landscape oil paintings, but few have seen the likes that confronted leader Kay Hughes.

Her husband,All RUBBER MATS is comprised of all types of mats, Patrick, told of her troop’s camping trip in the Wichita Mountains National Wildlife Refuge, near Fort Sill, Okla., where Patrick Hughes was an artillery instructor.

“The morning of this particular trip Kay was waked before sunrise by the sound of sniffing and snorting outside her tent. She looked out over the area and saw a herd of over 50 buffalo nosing around the tents. She watched in horror as they pawed around, generally investigating the interesting structures and fragrant girly smells that had suddenly arrived in their domain.

“Everyone knew buffalo are not to be taken lightly. Almost every year tourists are killed or mangled by the totally unpredictable creatures. Kay and her Scouts were well aware of that fact, because warnings are posted everywhere. However, the rangers had assured her that the buffalo wouldn’t be roaming near their campsite.

“Kay realized the huge animals seemed to be headed to the nearby stream. Between the stream and the buffalo was the mess kit line, strung between two trees with 20 metal mess kits hanging from it. Imagining the reaction of the buffalo to the sounds they would hear when they ran into that line, and envisioning the entire herd stampeding over tents and children, including the general’s daughter and her children, Scott, Terry, and Debby, Kay immediately sprung into action.

“She quietly went around to each tent and announced a ‘special hike.’ She told the children to keep their pajamas on, put their shoes on immediately and very silently but quickly meet her at the bottom of the ‘mountain,’ a large stone they could climb up easily. The girls thought it was a great adventure and followed her instructions, making it up the rocky crag to safety, where they sat for what seemed like hours, watching the buffalo water themselves and finally leave the campsite.

“Instead of panicking, Kay demonstrated the Girl Scout spirit and ability as she quickly, calmly and efficiently managed to turn what could have been a disaster into an interesting, educational, safe and fun experience for her troop.”

In 1994, the commanding general at Fort Sill presented Kay Hughes, now 72, with the Molly Pitcher Award for her dedicated service to the girls of Fort Sill, a rare honor, Patrick Hughes wrote.

How Solar Energy Can Save You Money

Solar energy is gradually becoming popular in Georgia as more and more companies offer equipment for its installation.

However solar equipment will eventually pay for itself in two to five years depending on how much sun a particular location receives. This page contains information about molds, At first glance this seems quite attractive, but the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of Georgia advises investing money in something else if one is looking for a quick and easy economic result.

There are two types of equipment for solar energy: solar collectors and solar panels. The first one is used for space heating and hot water. Meanwhile solar panels generate and supply electricity in commercial and residential applications.

“The price of a solar collector depends of the needs of the customer,” Zurab Mshvenieradze, Owner of Techenergo, told The FINANCIAL. “If a family of three uses a solar collector for 150 litres of water of 55 Celsius and heating for an apartment of 50 square meters daily, the cost of the equipment will be 2,200 USD.”  Just Choose PTMS plastic injection mould Is Your Best Choice!

In total its price will come to about 3,000 USD. Techenergo offers solar collectors with two year guarantees. The guarantee for a solar panel is 20 years.

“The price of solar panels also varies depending on the types of panels and totals approximately 4 USD per 1 watt. The supply voltage could be permanent or variable up to 1,000 volts,” Mshvenieradze explained.

“Installing solar collectors will pay for itself in about two years in the event of average use which means 50 litres of 55 Celsius water per person. The equipment of solar panels will pay for itself in five years time in the event of using 200-300 Kilowatt/hour per month.”

“In spite of the high cost of installation, solar energy is quite profitable and demand has increased since the utility bill for waste has been attached to the utility bill for electricity. The main demand is coming from the cities. But in reality solar energy is more profitable in the regions,” he stated.

The solar energy cost per Kilowatt/hour is about 0.40 USD according to international prices. One Kilowatt/hour of hydro electro energy is about 0.13 GEL in Georgia. The price difference is quite high, but after several years people will have free electricity in the case of solar energy.

According to the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of Georgia nowadays in Georgia solar energy collectors and panels are being installed in high mountainous regions including Tusheti, where hydro electro energy is not available. The first stage of this project has already been implemented and the second step will start in a short while. It is being funded by a grant.

“On the other hand people who have enough money to afford quite expensive equipment mainly install them in houses out of Tbilisi ,An Air purifier is a device which removes contaminants from the air.” said Mariam Valishvili, First deputy Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Georgia.Handmade oil paintings for sale at museum quality, “Georgia isn’t ready for intensive use of solar energy. 3,000 USD is quite a significant amount of money for the majority of the Georgian population. Not many of them can afford it. In regards to solar energy development, the Government needs subsidies. This is almost impossible as our economy does not give us the possibility.”

“Here lies another problem. Solar energy equipment needs special care. Lots of users do not know about this and the equipment therefore experiences malfunctions frequently. So solar energy is associated with several problems and isn’t likely to be used intensively in Georgia in the near future. It comes down to additional comfort versus everyday needs,” Valishvili explained.

“If people are planning to invest money in solar energy, I’d advise them to invest in something else based on their situation. On the other hand, investors who are going to make capital in such projects will only get this money back in about 50 years. Such projects are generally funded by grants, she added.

Solar energy is being implemented in high mountainous regions where hydro electro energy is not available. As a result solar energy is helping the development of eco tourism as well.

Cooking up some soap in the factory/kitchen

A love of handcrafted soap has morphed into a small business for Amy Grows.

With help from her husband, Walt, son, Casey, and a loyal customer base, the Camas Creek Soap Co. has grown to the break-even stage.  Just Choose PTMS plastic injection mould Is Your Best Choice!

"We're somewhat self-supporting," she says during a tour of the company's factory, supply room and show room - also known as her kitchen and laundry room.

Since the company launched two years ago, she's sold soap from Island Park to New Zealand and from Spain to the Midwest. And her well-organized and professionally displayed product has become a mainstay of area farmers markets and craft fairs.

Island Park campers,Handmade oil paintings for sale at museum quality, including camp hosts, search out her citronella-scented Shoo Fly soap to help keep the bugs at bay.

Fly-fishing shop customers buy her packages of pretty soaps with soft loofah sponges on a hand-made redwood soap dish as presents for their wives and girl friends back home.

Kids seek out the colorfully labeled Cotton Candy and Mud Pie soap.

She and her family make all of these soaps and more by hand from recipes fine-tuned by experience.

Amy says she's always been interested in handmade soaps, mainly because she loved the scents and the way they make her skin feel. She tried many before deciding to try her own hand at the craft to develop the best bar for her. She found a company that came close to producing the perfect bars and asked if she could learn from them.

She took two basic classes from a woman that runs the Greencastle Soap Co. in northern Idaho, perused plenty of books and gave it a try.

"It's really a science," she says. The Transaction Group offers the best high risk merchant account services, Though people have made soap throughout history, and the basic concept of soap made from lye and tallow or oils has been around since the 17th century, making a perfect bar of soap takes the right ingredients in the right proportions and serious attention to detail.

She has experimented with many recipes for different soaps and keeps meticulous notes about what does and doesn't work.

Cautious as she was learning the craft, "now I'm braver, bolder and experiment more," she says. Still, she's found that shortcuts don't work.

Also through trial and error, she has found the best suppliers for her olive, coconut and essential oils, as well as the chemicals she uses to make lye. She buys as locally as much as possible. She grows her own flowers and herbs, and family members in different climates supply some of the herbs she uses. Her brother grows rosemary. He also sends her flowers seeds, such as calendulas,What is the top Hemorrhoids treatment? which she grows, too, and uses in her soaps.

Other ingredients come right from the kitchen pantry - oatmeal and cornmeal for exfoliating properties and tumeric for color.

The small batches that produce a six-pounds block of soap are cooked up in a stainless steel pot on her stove with the mixing done carefully by hand and poured slowly into the molds made by her husband. The blocks are cooled, cured and cut by hand, and the edges are shaped with the most basic of kitchen gadgets, a potato peeler.

While selling the finished product brings in enough cash to keep the company in business, the fun part is being able to give it away, she says.MDC Mould specialized of Injection moulds,

The company cooked up bars of camouflage-colored soap and wrapped them in labels with the 116th Engineer's symbol and sent care packages of soap and Starbucks coffee packets to National Guard members serving in Afghanistan.

On a smaller scale, Amy has enjoyed giving bars of soap to kids for pennies and to others for no reason at all. She handed this reporter a cleverly stamped bar made of a blend of oils formulated to help dry skin. And she has donated bars of soap as prizes for the upcoming Feathers 'n' Fins cross-country ski race in Island Park Saturday.

Most of her sales come through word of mouth. "My daughter is my Midwest rep,I have just spent two weeks shopping for tile and have discovered Chinese porcelain tile.China Porcelain tile" she says. Her daughter sells the soap to friends and neighbors in Indiana.

Orders also go to New Mexico and California and even to folks who pick up the products in parking lots in Idaho Falls. Occasionally she will barter her soap for other products or services.

Versatile and inexpensive, Jaipur Foot prosthesis is transforming lives

"Mornings can be depressing here,Welcome to the online guide for do-it-yourself Ceramic tile." says Devendra Raj Mehta as dusk falls on the tree-lined grounds outside his Jaipur office. "Many people arrive with nothing, unable to walk. But by evening, everything is very different.MDC Mould specialized of Injection moulds," Located a few kilometres from the centre of the Rajasthani capital, the Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti (BMVSS) is internationally renowned for its work in the field of amputee care. Most notable is the organisation's pioneering of the Jaipur Foot - a durable, lifelike and inexpensive prosthesis that has already changed more than 400,000 lives.

"That is only the number of people around the world who have been fitted with Jaipur limbs," Mehta explains.Handmade oil paintings for sale at museum quality, "As you will see, we do more than just that.

"We also have centres in other Indian cities, such as Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai, and we take our work to places where it is needed overseas ... In total we have helped approximately 1.25 million people in 25 nations - including Iraq, Afghanistan and Somalia."

Watching Mehta, the 74-year-old founder and chief patron of the BMVSS as he fields calls, dictates letters and answers emails, the operation's reach quickly becomes apparent.Listing of Taiwan & China Mold Maker manufacturer & suppliers. On his agenda today are invitations to run clinics in Chad, Mongolia and Cameroon, and a request for his presence at an awards ceremony in Helsinki.

Taking a brief break from this correspondence, Mehta points to a framed picture on the window ledge: "That is from Time magazine," he says. "The Jaipur Knee [a fully jointed plastic prosthesis developed by the BMVSS] was named one of the top 50 inventions of 2009." He then runs through a list of notable sponsors and partner organisations, including national and local government departments, the Indian Space Research Organisation and Michigan Institute of Technology. Further funding for the BMVSS comes from private individuals and public figures, such as Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak, the United Arab Emirates Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, who provided backing for a recent limb-replacement programme in Pakistan. Just Choose PTMS Injection Mold Is Your Best Choice!

Looking at today's high-profile connections, it is easy to forget that the Jaipur Foot began as the handiwork of a local craftsman. Back in 1968, Ram Chandra Sharma, also affectionately known as Masterji, was employed as an occupational therapist by the Sawai Man Singh Hospital in Jaipur. During this time, he found himself frustrated by the expensive and impractical foreign-made prostheses he saw being fitted to amputees.

Masterji was determined to come up with a better alternative. Accordingly, he set himself a number of objectives. Firstly,The EZ Breathe home Ventilation system is maintenance free, his invention would be distributed free of charge, and thus needed to be made from cheap, easily obtainable materials. Secondly, it should be strong and flexible enough to withstand the rigours of manual labour. Thirdly, it would be culturally appropriate for its users: able to be worn with or without shoes for visits to temple or mosque, and capable of the full range of motions required by daily prayer.

Like every great innovation, Masterji's solution was simple and elegant. Instead of using costly alloys and polymers, he opted for a core of high-density foam rubber and wood, wrapped in vulcanised rubber. Pressed in a metal mould and heated, these components bound together and took on a shape uncannily close to that of a real human foot. This was then attached to a sturdy wooden leg.

In terms of form and function it was an unqualified success - so much so that it was fully endorsed by Masterji's employers and further research and development would involve a number of doctors from the hospital. Inevitably, word of this work spread among amputees in Rajasthan and beyond. However, for various reasons, only a very modest number of fittings (no more than 50) were carried out in seven years from 1968.

Symptoms Of Hemorrhoids And The Way To Spot Them

Hemorrhoids is a condition that many people have to unfortunately live with in pain.

Even though not everyone seems to be knowledgeable about what they are or recognize the signs to know if they have them.Welcome to the online guide for do-it-yourself Ceramic tile. The EZ Breathe home Ventilation system is maintenance free, In many instances, the signs of hemorrhoids are mixed with other such conditions. Although people don't like to have hemorrhoids, we sometimes have to suffer with them, but there are plenty of methods to treat them. This article will help you to be aware of a few hemorrhoid symptoms.

The severity level of hemorrhoids ranges from first to fourth degree, and doctors differentiate between internal and external. The biggest difference is between the internal and external type, as when you have internal hemorrhoids they are not visible without a medical examination. An anti-inflammatory from the pharmacy should be enough to treat your hemorrhoids if they only happen occasionally and don't cause extreme discomfort.Handmade oil paintings for sale at museum quality,Listing of Taiwan & China Mold Maker manufacturer & suppliers.

Hemorroids can be easily diagnosed according to your medical history, symptoms, and an examination. If necessary, your doctor may want to examine you using an anoscopy which is just a means of visible inspection that illuminates the affected area in your anus/rectum. If hemorrhoids are confirmed, then of course there will be some changes in order with regard to diet and other areas. The condition oftens responds very well and is manageable, but sometimes surgery is needed to address more severe cases. In many instances, the symptoms of hemorrhoids can be controlled by natural remedies and medicines you can buy at the pharmacy.

The diet you consume can either be a big help or do alotof harm where your hemorrhoid symptoms are concerned.MDC Mould specialized of Injection moulds, A lack of fiber in your diet, for example, can make you constipated, which can contribute to hemorrhoids. There are alot of people who believe that spicy foods irritate hemorrhoid symptoms after eaten. If this is the case with you, the best approach is to eat a diet high in fiber while avoiding hot and spicy foods as much as possible. You may also want to avoid unhealthy fats and junk foods as a general rule. Hemorroids and obesity are both caused by these types of foods.

Hemorrhoids is the kind of painful condition nobody wants to have. Yet, so many people in the more "advanced" societies seem to encounter this condition. While most of the time the symptoms do not require medical intervention, if they get bad enough then you could require surgery. The best course of action is to never ignore this condition if you think you have them. Just Choose PTMS plastic injection mould Is Your Best Choice!

These suggestions can assist you with the hemorrhoids, having said that if you truly desire to enjoy the best results a well-known program to eliminate hemorrhoids is very recommended. App helps small fry get square

That’s what Indiana merchants are saying about Square Inc., which offers a service to bypass expensive credit card transaction fees by basically using an iPad, iPhone or Android device as a cash register.

There are other firms like it, but San Francisco-based Square has been around since 2009 and is gaining popularity among small businesses in northeast Indiana.

“It’s great,” said Ann Barile, owner of Zia’s Italian Café and Tea House, located inside the Lamplight Inn senior facility, 300 E. Washington Blvd. “I’m a small-business person and don’t have a lot of money. When I found out about Square, I was kind of skeptical at first.”

The businesswoman began using the gadget last summer and expects to save $700 a year. Barile simply plugs the “Square” into her iPhone. The adapter device has a prong that connects to a headphone jack. Customers can swipe a credit card through the Square’s slit and use their finger to sign for purchases on the iPhone’s touch screen. Receipts are emailed or text-messaged to patrons.

Instead of paying for equipment and associated fees, Barile is only assessed a flat 2.75 percent charge per swipe. As for other charges, there is no activation, annual, monthly or refund fees that come with using some credit cards.

On average,Get information on Air purifier from the unbiased, bank card charges are between 2 percent and 3 percent per swipe. That might not sound like much in comparison to Square’s fees. However, Craig Shearman, vice president of governmental affairs for the National Retail Federation, said major retailers fetch lower rates because they have more customers than Mom-and-Pop operations.

“The higher the volume of purchases, the lower the rate that merchants have to pay,” he said. “So, what you have is smaller retailers being among the highest to pay.”

This is why Barile turned to Square.

“They sent me the Square for free, and any time I need a new one they ship it for free,” Barile said, adding that the company recoups its cost through the swipe fees. “It’s really convenient, and the customers think it’s neat and new.”

More than 600 companies in Fort Wayne use Square, company officials said.

Swipe fees cost merchants and their customers nearly $50 billion annually – triple the $16 billion assessed in 2001, according to the retail federation. The charges are hidden from consumers because card company practices keep the fees from showing up on receipts. Credit card firms and banks also don’t reveal the charges on cardholders’ monthly statements.

The fees cost the average U.S. household nearly $430 a year because retailers typically pass the cost on to consumers.

“That’s what’s been at the center of the fight for the past several years,” Shearman said.

That’s not to say that the industry has taken the issue sitting down. Retailers and proponents were behind a congressional push to address swipe fees that began several years ago.MDC Mould specialized of Injection moulds,

At least nine hearings on credit and debit swipe fees have been held since 2006, and in 2008 two bills were introduced.

In June , the Federal Reserve said banks can charge retailers no more than 21 cents each time they swipe a debit card. Banks previously had no limit and charged an average of 44 cents per swipe.

Now that the debit card reform is in place, retailers plan to press for legislation that will tackle credit card swipe fees as well.

Until then, those costs are passed on to the consumer.

“You don’t ever want to do that, so that’s why Square is so great,” Barile said.

Such praise pleases Square officials. Founded by Twitter creator Jack Dorsey,Full-service custom manufacturer of precision plastic injection mold, Square Inc. processes $2 billion in payments annually. Spokeswoman Lindsay Wiese said the company has found a niche.Smooth-On is your source for Mold Making and casting materials including silicone rubber and urethane rubber,

“The Square app and hardware are free,” Wiese said.

Square also doesn’t require a “merchant account,” which new business owners often don’t qualify for based on their revenue,Tru-Form Plastics is a one-stop shop for plastic Injection Molding, she said. Many find the application process complicated and expensive anyway, Wiese added.

Officials at the Institute for Local Self-Reliance in Minneapolis are intrigued by Square. The non-profit is a small business advocate. They say a level playing field needs to exist between the Macy’s and Mom-and-Pops of the world.

“The bigger retailers can afford (credit card fees), but smaller businesses can’t,” said Stacy Mitchell, a senior researcher for the institute. “It really has become one of the biggest costs for small businesses, and they don’t have a choice about it. They’re at the mercy of the big banks and Visa and Mastercard.”

So, for merchants who haven’t discovered Square or operations like it, “it’s not a competitive market,” Mitchell said. “We need some regulators to step in and put some rules in place because these small companies out there are getting gouged.”

Help could be on the way. The U.S. Government Accountability Office is aware of the situation. Alicia Puente Cackley is director of financial markets and community investment at the agency. She said credit card transaction fees “are an understandable concern.”

Cackley said not much has changed since her office studied the issue in late 2009. It found “that fees merchants pay to accept credit cards have risen over time.”

To offset the transaction charges, small merchants do indeed pass the costs to customers, Cackley said.

That was one of reasons Mabel on the Move went with Square. The Indianapolis business is owned by Kate McKibben, who said her mobile food truck specializes in organic and health food.

“The Square was cost effective for me because nobody carries cash like they used to,” said McKibben, who worked private events during the Super Bowl. “I just use my iPad and it becomes my cash register. People love the technology.”

Where does that leave credit card companies like Visa? Well, actually, it is an investor and, according to a Visa spokeswoman, Square’s success “hasn’t taken anything away” in terms of lost revenue. That’s because now Visa is able to reach smaller merchants who previously wouldn’t have qualified to accept credit cards.

Barile is just glad her expenses are down.

“It’s nice,” she said. “The amounts they charge might not seem like a lot, but for a small business it adds up.”

Oatland vet tends wild bobcat

The first clue was the pile of five dead chickens.

Kenny Okorowski found them behind his Oatland Island house.

Looking further he discovered his sixth chicken buried nearby. His seventh backyard bird was just gone.

“I was walking my dog Saturday morning and when I came around to the backyard, the chicken coop was full of feathers but no chickens,” Okorowski said.

He dug up the buried bird and used it to bait a large animal trap he borrowed from nearby Oatland Island Wildlife Center. He knew the predator would be back for leftovers.

“I wasn’t sure whether it was a bobcat or a coon but I knew whatever it was needed to be caught,” he said.

The next morning the wire cage held a full-grown male bobcat.

“It wasn’t too angry,” said Okorowski,The EZ Breathe home Ventilation system is maintenance free, who’s lived on Oatland for more than two decades but who hadn’t seen a bobcat in years.Take a walk on the natural side with stunning and luxurious Floor tiles from The Tile Shop. “But if we went too close he’d stand up and look at us.”

Okorowski took the 20-pound cat to Oatland where veterinarian Lesley Mailler has since been doctoring what she believes is an approximately 10-year-old bobcat that probably tangled with a large dog about a month ago.

Its left shoulder blade was crunched apart and the floating pieces of bone had fostered a nasty infection that made it hard for it to hunt.

“I think the wound forced it to find easier prey,” Mailler said.

The bobcat might also be responsible for killing one of Oatland’s turkeys, Darryl, the week before. (Turkey lovers can take consolation in the fact that the other Darryl was unharmed.)

Mailler knocked the cat out and cleaned the wound, pulling chunks of loose bone out then closed it up again. Several days later she knocked him out again for phase two of the wound care. She didn’t have to remove the stitches; he’d already done that.Handmade oil paintings for sale at museum quality,

“Naughty boy,” she said to the drugged cat laying on his side, tongue out, anesthesia mask on.

Mailler removed two surgical drains, tubes of latex that channel pus and fluid out of the wound. Then she stitched him up again, finishing three layers of internal stitches with a surgical glue for good measure. The inch-long piece of bone she removed in the first surgery won’t affect the cat’s mobility, Mailler said.

Named for their short tails, bobcats are the most common wild feline in the U.S. with a total population estimated at more than a million. The males are solitary with overlapping territories estimated at about 10 square miles,Tru-Form Plastics is a one-stop shop for plastic Injection Molding, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. They are not threatened or endangered.

Mailler has had recent practice on this species because the center last year acquired three adolescent bobcats that had been discovered as babies in South Carolina and nursed by a house cat. Mailler had to neuter them before they were put into their permanent display.

“We’ve had a bobcat bonanza going on,” Mailler said.

But the wild patient won’t be staying at Oatland permanently. Bobcats can live well into their teens, so at 10, this one is middle aged.MDC Mould specialized of Injection moulds, He’s thin, but the Oatland staff is fattening him up with frozen rats and the same meatballs their captive cats regularly dine on. Just two days after the last surgery he was already feistier, growling at his captor and swatting when they came close to his cage.

“He’s discovered he’s a bobcat again,” Mailler said. “He must be feeling better.”

Mailler plans to get the cat healthy and then relocate it to an as yet undetermined location away from traffic and the temptation of backyard chickens. She’s hopeful for his future.

“He’s a tough old guy,” she said.

Mobile coupons coming of age

It seems mobile coupons are finally coming of age. While there have been many early adaptors and technology solutions waiting for a market for quite some time, the last six months have seen an incredible increase in brands embracing the full mobile voucher (coupon) opportunity. As early as 2005, I saw the first very crude attempts to use SMS coupons: redeemed via a cash register and point of sale (POS) terminal using a series of jerry rigged register keys counting coupons presented and POS terminals fashioned to fit coupons into a gift card type model. Irrespective of the success, mobile coupons have struggled to gain traction because the redemption tracking was challenging and disruptive to the checkout process.

Coupons with notional value where viral distribution is part of the campaign mechanic required little or no closed loop processing. But vouchers with cash values and those used to represent significant value goods presented challenges if systems weren’t integrated to prevent multiple use. Not only were the processes and use of electronic devices at the checkout a challenge, but the scanning of coupons on mobiles was not the most reliable process!

As early as 2004, Mobilize Systems in the UK launched its ‘Shop, Scan, Save’ program, which was one of the first closed loop mobile coupon redemption systems utilising hardware at POS to scan or enter the barcode and validate the coupon.

Today, there are a number of organisations building very sophisticated systems to provide a comprehensive closed loop mobile coupon ecosystem. It’s logical that the POS terminal be the key to the redemption that has been the endeavour of many SMS-based systems since 2004/5. But, in reality, it’s been the last 12 months where consumer acceptance, retailers’ systems and agency understanding have all aligned to see new and exciting programs coming into the market.

The Starbucks mobile payment initiative and the Target text alert mobile coupon platform come from two very high profile retailers that have taken the time to understand the medium and created programs that win the hearts and minds of consumers. Interestingly, two years ago these kinds of initiatives in Australia saw average results and were met with roadblocks and disappointing adoption rates. Most of the performance disappointments were due to poor planning, poor execution and the disconnected worlds of IT techos and agency creative people simply not meeting anywhere close to the middle.

If you’ve ever tried, considered,As a professional manufacturer of China ceramic tile in China, dabbled, explored or even dismissed mobile coupons in the past, then think again; the time has arrived and the early adoption teething problems have been solved. From the scanning through to redemption tracking, mobile coupon platforms are sophisticated and emerging from all kinds of organisations. Some of the more interesting ones are now even integrating high-end CRM (customer relationship management) systems and applying behavioural monitoring and pre-emptive shopping tools. Even more interesting, is that this new breed of retail coupon champions is not from the geek/tech world, and is not from highly creative and abstract agency land, but fits somewhere in the middle with strong retail forensic skills and systems that support their strategy. An Air purifier is a device which removes contaminants from the air.

To help get back on focus with mobile coupons, here is a collection of facts and figures, along with a discussion and relevancy for our market. Remember always with mobile stats, it’s important to appreciate their context in terms of geography, as markets like the UK and the US have very different influences and usage patterns:

According to the Annual Topline US ‘CPG Coupon Facts Report’ for 2010, released by NCH Marketing Services, shoppers saved US $3.7 billion with coupons in 2010, representing a 5.7 percent increase from 2009 (US). Interestingly, it was generally regarded in 2008/9 that Australia was a leader in the trial and exploration of mobile coupons, just behind the UK and far ahead of the US, but, based on this, the US has now embraced and accelerated past Australia. Bigger risk takers or better marketers?

In 2010, an average of $1.46 of coupon face value was distributed, representing a 6.6 percent increase from 2009. Sites like Myzerr and Cellfire have helped raise the bar on coupon value from soft offers of a free coffee to vouchers with hard tangible cash value. I believe that, within the next six months as redemption abuse is able to be managed and controlled through complete closed loop systems, we will see far higher value being used in vouchers to the point of them almost being able to be used as ‘stored value coupons’ in the same manner as gift cards (such as the Starbuck payment system). Imagine being able to MMS a friend a $100 mobile gift card voucher for a retail outlet and all parties knowing its secure, reliable, traceable and, most importantly, fraud resilient.

Redemption volume in the US grew 3.Information on useful yeasts and moulds,1 percent to 3.3 billion CPG coupons in 2010. The increasing trend in consumer use of coupons was further supported by NCH’s Consumer Survey and tends to be a self-fulfilling growth accelerator; as consumers begin to understand and use mobile coupons,The Transaction Group offers the best high risk merchant account services, the number of retailers adopting the approach rallies exponentially. It didn’t take long after the technology was able to support the strategy that frugal consumers saw the huge savings achievable through mobile coupons. And, best of all, there’s no metre-high pile of newspapers and catalogues and hours of cutting and collating to collect the coupons. Text and join, click to buy and a range of other online methods make the receipt of cash saving coupons fast and efficient.

More than 300 million consumers around the world will have used mobile coupons by 2014 and this usage will generate a redemption value close to US $6 billion globally,Dimensional Mailing magic cube for Promotional Advertising, according to a forecast and report by Juniper Research. This is a statistic I’ve now seen in a few places. I am not sure how it was attained, but what it does now demonstrate is that mobile coupons and vouchers are a strong growing digital channel that simply has to form part of a unified cross-media strategy.

Solar power

Sunshine, or its absence, is much on the minds of Utahns these days,Muyoung mould specializes in manufacture Plastic molding, what with the winter solstice today and the murky daytime gloom caused by the dirty air that has enveloped the valleys. So it is an opportune time to urge the Public Service Commission to extend the subsidies for installation of solar cells on homes and businesses.

Photovoltaic cells produce electricity without burning fossil fuels. So there is a link between encouraging more people to install solar panels and reducing the air pollution that temperature inversions trap in Utah’s valleys.Dimensional Mailing magic cube for Promotional Advertising,

Admittedly, that link is a minuscule one now because the number of solar panel installations that have been subsidized by the existing program is tiny. The program’s funding of $314,500 a year is only enough to encourage development of about 30 systems annually. However, the federal and state governments also provide incentives.

The Federal Residential Renewable Energy Tax Credit of 30 percent covers solar water heating and photovoltaic systems, and continues through 2016. Rocky Mountain Power’s net metering program also enables owners of solar systems to sell excess electricity to the grid at market rates. Piggybacking the PSC’s small incentive program on these others helps to advance the cause.

Encouraging these installations should stimulate the market for more of them, reduce unit costs and produce more electric power for the grid, thus benefiting ratepayers as a whole. In fact, the cost of solar panels has come down considerably over the last three years.

Whether the program is cost effective depends upon how the accounting is done. But the Division of Public Utilities says that by its measure, the program is cost effective to Utah ratepayers.

The PSC instituted the current five-year program in 2007.MDC Mould specialized of Injection moulds, It is scheduled to expire at the end of this month. The Division of Public Utilities has recommended that the program be extended for a year, that the size of its annual kilowatts be doubled to 214 and that its budget be increased modestly to $385,000. In the meantime, a working group would be convened to design a new incentive program based on the results of the existing one. The one-year extension would be a bridge to this new program. The EZ Breathe home Ventilation system is maintenance free, The division also recommends that the new program expire at the same time the current federal incentives come to an end in 2016.We are passionate about polished tiles.

That sounds like a good road map. It’s not going to change the world of electrical power, but should encourage more people and businesses to take the plunge into solar power.

Long lost Velazquez masterpiece found in Whitstable

AN oil painting discovered in Whitstable has sold for 3 million at auction.

The painting, originally thought to have been worth around 300, turned out to be a long lost work by the famous Spanish painter Velazquez.Dimensional Mailing magic cube for Promotional Advertising,

It features the face of an unknown balding man and would have been painted sometime in the first half of the 17th century.

The painting came to light in August, 2010. It was part of a collection of paintings originally owned by the 19th century British artist Matthew Shepperson who spent time painting at Buckingham Palace.

The owner of the picture, who had inherited it from an uncle, brought it into the Bonhams auctioneers office in Whitstable along with others in Shepperson’s collection to be valued.I have just spent two weeks shopping for tile and have discovered China Porcelain tile.

Just before it was due to go on sale at an auction in Oxford experts from Bonhams withdrew it from sale realising it could be a long-lost masterpiece. Why does Plastic moulds grow in homes or buildings?

The portrait was confirmed to be by Velazquez after X-ray examination and extensive research carried out over many months.

It is one of 100 works by the Seville artist known to exist. Only a handful remain in private hands.

Dr Peter Cherry, Professor of Art History at the University of Dublin is an expert on Velazquez.

He said: “The particularized likeness and recognisably lifelike texture, weight and colours of the fleshy face speak of the actual encounter between subject and painter; while the style and technical brilliance of the representation itself betrays its author.”

Diego Rodriguez de Silva Velazquez was born in 1599 and became the leading artist in the court of King Philip IV of Spain.China yiri mould is a professional manufacturer which integrates Plastic Mould design and manufacture and plastic product development.

His naturalistic approach to his subjects is thought to have influenced later artists like Manet, Picasso Salvador Dali and Francis Bacon.

Andrew McKenzie, director of old master paintings at Bonhams said: “Velazquez is one of the greatest geniuses in the entire history of Western art. The discovery of this lost treasure is a once in a lifetime experience and it has been tremendously exciting to be able to bring it to the world’s attention. This is a portrait of outstanding quality which has the most extraordinary presence. The EZ Breathe home Ventilation system is maintenance free,”

The man in the 18in high painting, which was sold last week at Bonhams London saleroom, is wearing a black tunic and white collar. Although he is not known it is thought he could have been Juan Mateos, King Philip IV’s Master of the Hunt.

As well as painting noble men and women in the royal court Velazquez also painted commoners and mundane subjects such as a woman frying eggs.

It's a shame, but some chicken doesn't taste like good chicken can

There was a time when I was really hard on chicken. Actually, I'll just come out and say it: I was hard on people who loved chicken. I thought it was for people who had no idea what they wanted. No idea who they were. Or people who were simply too chicken to order anything else.

If I could have exercised my will during that time, I would have made skinless,Bathroom Floor tiles at Great Prices from Topps Tiles. boneless chicken breast an international offence. If I could have had a superpower, it would have been to replace all the chicken on menus with tofu, the only common protein I knew of that could compare in terms of its potential for blandness, but so much more benevolent because it spares the necks of chickens.

I would have liked to impose a ban on the warmed-over line, "tastes like chicken". And after a cinnamon roll and a salmon bake in the town of Chicken, Alaska,This page contains information about molds, the only thing I genuinely didn't love about the place was its name.

How could one person be so jaded about chicken? People kill more than 40 billion chickens annually for their consumption. It's certainly popular enough. But generally perceived as one of the most innocuous and easily digested foods out there, chicken had long struck me as a sort of miscellaneous fallback protein, prepared thoughtlessly and shoe-horned on to restaurant menus as an afterthought to placate the picky eaters.

When I realised the arrogance and idiocy of my ways, it wasn't because of a chicken that had lived a happy life roaming free and getting fat on good, organic mineral-rich grains and seeds and vegetation - though such chickens make glorious roasting birds indeed.

It was a bite of transcendental fried chicken at the Loveless Café in Nashville, Tennessee, that made me want to climb on to the roof and burn off the calories,Save on hydraulic hose and fittings, singing the praises of my no-longer-maligned lunch meat.

A few weeks later, my first taste of potatoes - fried in schmaltz-rendered chicken fat used in Ashkenazi,Dimensional Mailing magic cube for Promotional Advertising, German and Ukrainian cooking - sealed the deal, and nearly an artery or two, in a lifelong embrace.

An obvious alternative to more expensive forms of protein, chicken provides a more healthful option. Sadly, chicken dishes run a higher risk of being complete snores - and not just because of the amount of sleep-inducing tryptophan contained in chicken meat, which comes very close to that of the known soporific: turkey.

Musakhan, the Palestinian dish of tender chicken, tart sumac and melting,The EZ Breathe home Ventilation system is maintenance free, caramelised onion, is a dish I'd gladly represent in a fight for the title of world's greatest chicken dish. My sole contingency: dark meat only, please.

In fact, "thigh" is always the answer when I'm given the choice, but there are other parts of the bird that should not be overlooked, starting with the prized "oyster". A dark, plump little morsel with a distinct flavour and texture, the oyster is tucked away in a crevice where the cook has to look for it. Easy to miss - and tragically, easy to miss out on - the French name for it means "the fool leaves it there".

There's the juicy, unctuous tail, full of fat and flavour, and of course, the skin. Fried chicken skin - as a garnish for soup, in tacos, or on its own, sprinkled with salt, is one of the greatest and most easily acquired treats around.

I've visited a lot of chicken coops, and though I'm not religious about researching where my chicken comes from, how it was raised, or what its name was, I'm very cautious about how much of it I eat. It's not the urban legends about female hirsutism attributed to the consumption of factory-farmed chickens that instilled this caution in me; it was visiting the factories themselves.

Though pork has long been held as the dirty, tainted meat, I've seen - and smelled - some chicken coops that left me traumatised. We had raised chickens when I was growing up, and raising chickens in the city is a popular endeavour these days for those with the space, time and inspiration to do it, but the fate of the overwhelming majority of animals raised for slaughter is a completely different story, and one that I think should be considered by everyone who eats meat.

Artistic abundance at the Morro Bay Art Association's Student Scholarship Show

The Morro Bay Art Association’s Student Scholarship Show had so many entries and categories that it took 12 judges to select the winners.

Teams of two made selections from two-dimensional, threedimensional and photography, with county high school and colleges judged separately. Nearly $4,000 was awarded in this 26th annual competition. Prizes ranged from $100 to $500.

The show emphasizes original work created during art class enrollment.

High school student Hunter Tasseff not only took first place and second place for his creations in wood in the 3-D category, but won best of show as well. Tasseff has been woodworking since a shop class at Laguna Middle School five years ago.

“It was a really good experience for me, and it really opened my eyes to what I could do,” said the 17-year-old, who attends San Luis Obispo High School, where he continues to take wood shop. “I just like working with my hands (as) a different way to express myself.”

His blue ribbon and best of show, “375 Steps,” is a large urnlike vessel formed with separate small squares in a segmented process. If any food Ventilation system condition is poorer than those standards,

“It’s put together piece by piece,” said Tasseff, which took about a month of solid work, two months total.ceramic magic cube for the medical, The inside of the vessel’s opening is inlay.

Nate Holben of Cuesta College won first place in the 3-D college category for “Directions,Do not use cleaners with porcelain tiles , steel wool or thinners.” a bronze, and took second place as well, for “11/2/11.”

Morro Bay High School student Alyssa Hudson’s introduction to photography was also through a school class three years ago. Her “Simple Vibrance” took first place for photography for high school students. Although brilliantly colored flowers are the subject matter , Hudson’s composition is more abstract than realistic.

"As I’ve grown with photography, I like to do abstract things,” she said. Getting her own camera, a Canon Rebel XSI for her 16th birthday, opened up new worlds for her after being limited to the school camera that she could only use on campus. Hudson said she also likes to shoot animals, people and food. When she suddenly became intrigued by an open pea pod in her salad, it was like seeing such an item for the first time.

Alexander Silva, a Cal Poly student, took first place in photography for the college category for his black and white titled “Rebel Form.”

Cal Poly art major Rachel La Bonie, who earned first place in the college 2-D category for “Renewal 2,” took her first painting class less than two years ago, she said.Your source for re-usable Plastic moulds of strong latex rubber. Her winning oil painting of a woman resting her head on a table in a desolate-looking room has a disturbing quality.

She also wanted to express how in life “sometimes things come together and other times they’re falling apart.” This and her “Renewal 1” have no specific meaning,Polycore oil paintings for sale are manufactured as a single sheet, said the 20-year-old. “I want them to be open to interpretation, to invoke thoughts and questions.”

Major Dalton of Morro Bay High School took first in 2-D for his intricate ink drawing “Crab.”

Event chair Carolyn Braun said the event not only gives students a chance to display their talents in an art gallery, but gives them a taste of being judged by professionals, and the experience of bringing in work ready to be hung.

A dog’s story: from misery to a happy home

Suzannah J. Vanson is one of the Quebecers who have volunteered to offer a foster home to the more than 500 dogs seized by animal-welfare officials in a raid on a kennel in the Outaouais region in September. Amy and her puppies have been at Vanson’s home in Dollard des Ormeaux for the past seven weeks. Here Vanson writes of the experience – from Amy’s perspective.ceramic magic cube for the medical,

I am not very old – probably under three. Until very recently, I had never seen the light. I didn’t feel the ground. I didn’t know warm touches or a warm bed. Fresh air was foreign to me. I was used to breed, litter after litter. My puppies were all I had and I took care of them well, even though I was sad and in a lot of pain from a large bladder stone that would soon be discovered.

One day we were all taken away from the puppy mill and brought to a new place, a shelter. I was part of the largest-ever puppy-mill seizure in Quebec or Canada. I sat with my five babies, scared and alone, in a cage. A woman came one day, and I heard her say, “It doesn’t matter which one I take – whoever needs it the most.” The vets pointed to me.

The next thing I knew my babies and I were in a cage in a car – that was scary. Then I was brought into a room that was bright and clean, and so quiet. I had never known quiet before. There was a cage, and warm, clean bedding, and bowls of fresh water.

Food was brought to me every four hours. The woman kept talking to me, but I made sure to hang my head low, never to look at her, and to stay in the back of the cage.

After a few days I got curious about this woman, and I would peek around the corner at her. That was the start of what she calls my rehab into normal life.

The woman kept calling me Amy. No one ever called me a name before, or sat with me to pet me. She always cleaned up after me. I never sat in my own filth any more.

The woman kept coming into the room and just sitting with me. I wasn’t sure why, or what she wanted. She held my babies, but always gave them back. She offered me cheese, but I was too frightened to take it, so she left it for me and I ate it as soon as she left. Slowly, with time,They take the China Porcelain tile to the local co-op market. I started to eat it in front of her, and then I even took it from her hand. I started to learn that her hands don’t hurt.

She cut the hair from my face, and I could see. (She says I have Bette Davis eyes, and keeps kissing my nose.) She gave me a bath. I was terrified, and tried with all my might to get away,If any food Ventilation system condition is poorer than those standards, but finally I just sat as she washed me and then held me in a heated towel.Polycore oil paintings for sale are manufactured as a single sheet, It was an ordeal, but it felt good not to have filth on me.

I am terrified when she has a leash. I cannot help but shake and hold my head down,Why does moulds grow in homes or buildings, and cower in the corner. I wish I could tell her what happened to me with a leash. Then she would know why it frightens me so much.

On warm days she sits outside with me and holds me. I am scared of the bright sunshine and the noises, but I am starting to look around. This world seems to be full of so much I have never seen before.

I feel happy when I see her now. I even caught myself wagging my bum. What a curious feeling – can it be joy?

The woman brought toys. My babies wanted them, but I think I liked them even more. I never had a toy before. The woman brought many more, so we all had toys to keep next to us.

One day when the woman was sitting with us, playing with my puppies, I suddenly had the urge to do something I had never done before. I got up and I nudged her with my nose: “Pay attention to me, lady. Those kids can wait.” The woman turned around and realized it was me asking, and she started to cry. She seemed to think she had “got me” – that I had made the leap from puppy-mill dog to a friend who lives in a home.

Maryland basketball is routed by Iona at Puerto Rico Tip-Off

An error-plagued, undisciplined second half that resulted in an 89-63 loss to Iona on Sunday left Maryland basketball Coach Mark Turgeon questioning his players’ toughness in the face of adversity, their ability to follow instructions and their fundamental desire to excel.

The defeat in the fifth-place game of the Puerto Rico Tip-off dropped Maryland to 2-2, obliterated any good feeling from the Terrapins’ come-from-behind victory over Colorado on Friday and baffled Turgeon, who coached despite ailing with kidney stones.

“This is the biggest challenge I’ve ever had in coaching; it’s not even close,” said Turgeon, who turned around struggling teams at Jacksonville State and Wichita State and led Texas A&M to four consecutive NCAA tournaments before succeeding Maryland’s Gary Williams in May.Enecsys Limited, supplier of reliable solar Air purifier systems,

“I can’t make it any easier on these guys,” Turgeon said, with senior Sean Mosley, who led the team with 21 points, sitting beside him. “The lack of commitment to running the plays the right way is mind-boggling. I’ve never seen anything like it.”

Turgeon cited an offensive play that the Terps ran properly 10 times on Friday against Colorado. According to Turgeon, he called the same play three times in the second half against Iona, and it was botched each time.

That was hardly the only thing that aggravated the coach, who spoke with players in the locker room for an extended time following the defeat, enumerating the myriad ways in which they had performed poorly.

Maryland turned the ball over 26 times, and the gaffes translated to 32 points for Iona (2-1) — more than one-third of the Gaels’ scoring effort.

Beaten on fast breaks by Iona’s speedsters throughout, Maryland appeared to give up on defense down the stretch, surrendering 23 points in the last seven minutes.

And the Terps dished out just nine assists to those 26 turnovers, while Iona finished with 22 assists to 10 turnovers. Iona senior point guard Scott Machado accounted for 15 of the Gaels’ assists, firing well-timed, pinpoint passes to whoever had scoring position.

Maryland sophomore guard Terrell Stoglin, who scored a career-high 32 points against Colorado, finished with 17 points on 7-of-17 shooting while accounting for just one assist and four turnovers.

The loss wasn’t simply a matter of poor shooting. It had more to do with a breakdown of teamwork, heart and hustle once Iona got the upper hand.

Said Mosley: “We didn’t execute any offensive plays in the second half. When things go south, guys on the team put their head down. .. We’ve got to get tougher as a team.”

Turgeon had warned that Iona would test Maryland’s transition defense and ball-handling. The Gaels did, determined from the outset, according to guard Lamont Jones (22 points),The application can provide Ceramic tile to visitors,Polycore oil paintings for sale are manufactured as a single sheet, to make a statement against an ACC team with their speed and pressure defense.

Maryland had 10 turnovers in the first 10 minutes. Freshman point guard Nick Faust picked up three fouls in the first 12 minutes, and Mychal Parker and Mosley also drew multiple fouls quickly, ceramic magic cube for the medical, forcing walk-on Jonathan Thomas into action earlier than planned.

Trailing 35-25, Maryland went on a 9-2 run to close the first half down only by three,Unlike traditional high risk merchant account , 37-34.

But less than five minutes into the second half, Maryland trailed by 14. And Turgeon, whose foot-stomping, arm-flailing and barked instructions appeared to make little difference, screamed at his players during the timeout that followed.

Maryland pulled within seven (56-49) at roughly the 10-minute mark. But a dreadful sequence followed in which a flurry of Maryland miscues led to a 12-0 Iona run. James Padgett muscled his way to the free throw line but missed both attempts. Faust passed the ball when Mosley wasn’t looking. Parker was stripped. And each flub led to a fast-break basket for Iona.

“We were confused,” Turgeon said. “We were selfish, I don’t know how many times we can ask these guys to run back [on defense], and they still don’t do it the way they need to do it. It was a bad day.”

Progress made on retaining wall of Veterans Memorial Park

Work has begun on the Veterans Memorial Park for Butte County after more than 10 years of planning and promotion.

The Veterans Memorial Park Committee, chaired by Stu Shaner and Butte County Supervisor Bill Connelly, guided the project through a quagmire of delays Connelly said are too numerous to list.

But the story had a happy ending this week — or rather a happy beginning — as heavy equipment rolled and workers buzzed at the memorial site overlooking the Feather River.

For Shaner, Connelly and other committee members who have attended hundreds of public meetings and spent thousands of hours spearheading a memorial, Monday's activity was a dream come true.

Connelly said seeing the construction on Monday was a very emotional experience.

"We are actually starting to build it," he said. "We're not tearing down or moving, we are actually starting to build, and it's really cool.Read Wholesale Line Series For Countertops From China Manufacturers and burn fat away"

A retaining wall going in over the next couple of weeks was funded by a grant through the county with matching funds from the city of Oroville Redevelopment Agency.

"This is the major feature that requires the most work,The Eden Bath line of Wholesale Ceramic wall tiles For Wall From China Manufacturers are highly desired due to their naturally random beauty" Connelly said. "Nothing after this is going to be really hard."

In the past, the project has been funded by a grant the county passed through for the project, a federal earmark from former Congressman John Doolittle, some city and county money and community donations.

A couple of years ago, Connelly finally negotiated to buy the property on Montgomery Street where two old houses once stood.

Buying the property ended a long process with many complications that at times made the project seem like a pipe dream.

But Connelly and Shaner persevered,Buy Wholesale Micro For Wall From China Manufacturers direct from us at low prices insisting they would build a memorial.

Local contractors and businesses donated labor and resources to tear the houses down and clear the property.

Community donations paid for the engineering work. The county became the lead agency several years ago, doing some work in-house, including applying for another grant.

Connelly said the memorial is one of the final projects being considered for Proposition 64 grant money, and the awards should be announced in February.

Shaner was the other major force behind the memorial, and Monday he watched the work and talked excitedly about the memorial.

"It's just amazing," Shaner said. "I am so excited."

Shaner said both the city and the county contributed to the memorial.

Meanwhile, the committee is seeking community donations to see the project through.

The next phases will install a concrete platform that will include an outlook over the river by the retaining wall and a meeting place.

Shaner said the wall being installed now will accommodate a a memorial wall for men and women around the county who died in the nation's wars.

Fall snowstorm leaves Greeley trees in bad shape

Donald Wiegel was wrestling with snow and ice-laden tree limbs Friday morning when he heard the sound of heavy equipment at his front door.

A Greeley worker emerged from behind two front loaders and three city trucks, telling him not to get any closer.

“There was a huge high branch hanging by a thread over the sidewalk,If so, you may have a cube puzzle .” Wiegel said. About five employees with Greeley’s street maintenance crew removed the hazard and helped Wiegel with the branches he had been trying to move.

“They didn’t need to do that,” Wiegel said, thankful for the help.

City crews have been making rounds since Thursday, picking up tree limbs, mostly on arterial roads, Public Works Director Joel Hemesath said. Residents can put their limbs on the curbside for pickup through Nov. 7. Hemesath said maintenance crews haven’t been able to focus on many other issues besides “emergency” cases — those like the branch in front of Wiegel’s house — that threaten to fall on roofs, passing cars or worse,100 China ceramic tile was used to link the lamps together. people.

Greeley Forestry Manager Shiloh Hatcher said the city’s focus will be on hazardous branches for the next few months. After that, crews will uncover the storm’s real legacy in its long-term damage to the trees.

Parks Superintendent Ken Musil said Greeley’s parks,As many processors back away from hydraulic hose , especially Glenmere, Bittersweet and Cottonwood, were hit hard in the storm.

“I’ve never seen it this bad, and I’ve been here almost 33 years,” he said.

Susan Herold, president of the Greater Glenmere Properties Association, said the costly bird sanctuary in Glenmere Park’s “island” suffered damage, as well. While some birds may continue nesting there — tourists came from all over to see a significant number of black-crowned night herons earlier this year — there won’t be room for the same number of birds the sanctuary saw last year, including egrets, blue herons and kingfishers, Herold said.

She said the park’s restoration will be on the association’s front-burner as it plans for long-term development.

“It’s really heart wrenching,” Herold said of the damage.

Hatcher said he won’t know the monetary cost of cleanup for a few weeks, but hiring contractors for tree limb collection is a costly undertaking. He said residents should keep a lookout for cracked limbs on their trees, which are at a great risk of falling off in the next wind storm.the Plastic molding are swollen blood vessels of the rectum.

“Regular pruning is pretty imperative now more than ever,” Hatcher said. He said residents should consider employing a licensed arborist to get rid of dangling limbs and other disguised hazards at the top of their trees.

Hatcher said he is also concerned for damaged trees come spring, because they will be more susceptible to insects and diseases. A disease already going around in walnut trees before the storm probably ensured that they lost branches under the 12.5 inches of snow, Hatcher said.

The piles of green waste accumulating at the city’s free tree recycling center at 14th Avenue and A Street probably won’t get mulched until all of the refuse has been collected,By Alex Lippa Close-up of zentai in Massachusetts. said Jerry Pickett, street maintenance supervisor.

He said he anticipates grinding up the green waste at the beginning of December, at which point the city will likely make the mulch available to residents for free.

Hemesath said he expects “quite the pile” at the tree limb disposal site.

“It’s probably way more than we can realistically use in parks and stuff,” he said of the mulch the pile will produce.

Pickett estimated about 2,500 cubic yards had collected at the site by Friday afternoon — and he expected the weekend to bring that number way up.

Javier Tovar was unloading his truck bed Friday afternoon for the third time at the recycle site. He said the worst part of it all was that he only owns two baby trees. He had to collect and dispose of all of his neighbors’ tree limbs that had fallen in his yard.

Tovar said he had spent about four hours loading up his truck with tree limbs and hauling them to the drop site near Island Grove Regional Park, but most of the work is in loading up the refuse. He pointed to one of about 14 trucks backed up to the pile as two people cleared off a 5-foot pile of limbs in one swoop.

Kitchen ready for parties, but not for a cosmetic redo just yet

It's no secret that Weibel takes no shortcuts: There's no dishwasher or food processor, but there are three mortar and pestles that she actually uses and rows of glass jars holding dried beans and grains, vinegars and spices.

It's no secret that Weibel, chef and co-owner of the Atwater Village restaurant Canele, starts most days with oatmeal and cafe au lait: Check out the five stove top espresso makers, some with bottoms blackened by use. And there are half a dozen McCann's Irish oatmeal canisters.

And it's no secret that this roughly 6-by-8-foot sunlit room with a shortage of counter space is the kitchen of a real cook: Her favorite steel saute pan, as seasoned as it gets, sits on a burner of one of the few upscale notes in the room: her Wolf range with its iconic red dials and wolf's head logo plate. Surrounding the range,Replacement China Porcelain tile and bulbs for Canada and Worldwide. cotton towels and aprons hang on S-hooks; rubber scrapers, ladles and wooden spoons are at the ready.

In Weibel's kitchen, all but the cleaning supplies are out in the open.

Her home sits halfway up a heart-challenging Silver Lake hill. Weibel, who was catering at the time, bought it seven years ago, moving from a nearby rental. After she moved in and made some necessary changes, she didn't have much of a budget for a cosmetic redo of the kitchen.

She ripped out ratty cupboard doors, including lower ones destroyed by a previous owner's pit bull. What she calls cheap drywall came down, revealing an insect infestation. She played off the range details by painting red walls (also the color of the toaster and teapot). And she covered the chipped and discolored linoleum with a hunter green cotton rug.

"It's the irony of my life," she jokes - a restaurant chef with a make-do home kitchen.

But she makes do quite well, giving dinner parties for as many as 50 or 60 friends, who spill out to the backyard, which is home to the chickens Dolly, Madison and Chanel. (She says she always makes extra oatmeal, ceramic Floor tiles for the medical, for them.)

She's never owned a dishwasher, and her guests often help to cook and clean up after a meal. "It becomes that social thing. Rarely do I have to do it myself," she says.

In the cupboards there are olives, anchovies, garlic and capers, and a dozen kinds of tea in metal boxes. And sharing space with the wine and martini glasses are several shapes of dried pasta from her favorite brand, Maestri Pastai.

"If you have all that in the house, you can make a meal," says Weibel, a onetime commodities trader. But she sometimes worries her guests might raise an eyebrow.

She imagines them saying: "Oh, my God. She has a restaurant, and she just threw together pasta and garlic."

Her Wolf is her favorite thing in the room, she says.we supply all kinds of polished tiles, Her friends pitched in for it as a housewarming gift.If any food cube puzzle condition is poorer than those standards,

"It's never let me down," she says. "I love the way it looks - kind of industrial."

Weibel also put up steel shelves. And she has long owned a pale wooden bar on wheels that she's moved all over the country. Here it does double duty, dividing the kitchen from the living room. On top is a small cutting board, a Spanish casserole dish and a plate holding a couple of peaches.

Her big refrigerator has gone to the restaurant, replaced by an unremarkable white one next to the back door and covered in those little poetry magnets. Her cookbooks include "The James Beard Cookbook," "From Julia Child's Kitchen," an old Betty Crocker and Anthony Bourdain's food and travel journal "No Reservations."

A double farm sink sits under a window with a frame that's seen better days, but your eyes are drawn instead to a great view of the reservoir down the hill, seen through wind chimes made from a whisk, fork, spoon and cookie cutters. Our high risk merchant account was down for about an hour and a half,

One day, she says, she'd like a new floor, and a wooden counter top to replace the old and broken white and gold tiles. But it's not likely to happen soon.

US trying to make Pakistan a fall guy, says former adviser

Former National Security Adviser Maj-Gen Mehmood Ahmed Durrani, who is considered a friend of America, says overwhelming number of Pakistanis believe that the US is making Pakistan a fall guy for its failures in Afghanistan.

Today the mistrust is not only at the level of the governments but also at the level of the people, he told The News. "One issue is indisputable - the US has failed to achieve its objectives of peace, prosperity, democracy and defeating terrorism in Afghanistan; and this is not because of Pakistan. Even if the Durand Line were to be hermetically sealed, the mess in Afghanistan will remain,These girls have never had a oil painting supplies in their lives!" Durrani said.

He said it was a pity that for once Pakistan and the US faced a common threat, terrorism, and in spite of being allies they had not been able to talk frankly and resolve perceptional problems.

But Durrani,Polycore porcelain tiles are manufactured as a single sheet, who served as powerful military secretary to General Ziaul Haq for many years, was confident that even now a frank and open discourse could resolve the differences and reduce the mistrust.

He believed that the material support provided by the US to Pakistan to fight terrorism had been inadequate, painfully slow and with strings based on mistrust. "Pak-US relations have come almost to a breaking point, especially after the broadside salvo fired by the US defence officials, accusing Pakistan of supporting the Haqqani network against the US and its allies in Afghanistan," he said.

Actually, Durrani said, the seeds for a strategic drift were sown from the day Pakistan and the US agreed to cooperate in the war on terror after 9/11. The underlying cause for this drift was the existing mistrust and friction in the strategic objectives and operational policy of both countries,By Alex Lippa Close-up of plastic card in Massachusetts." he added.

He said the US continued to believe throughout this period of cooperation that Pakistan was not doing enough in cooperating with the US to defeat terrorism in Afghanistan. They felt Pakistan was hunting with the hound and at the same time running with the hare, he said, adding that on the other hand Pakistan remained suspicious of some strategic objectives of the US and its strategy in Afghanistan.

An hitherto unpublished US Embassy Islamabad cable released by the WikiLeaks, which was written by Ambassador Anne W Patterson on Durrani’s dismissal by Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani as national security adviser, said Durrani was a good friend to the US, a voice of reason on foreign policy, and an advocate of improved Indo-Pak ties. "We will miss him,As many processors back away from Cable Ties , and the mode of his departure is another reminder that the GOP (government of Pakistan) has yet to coordinate its national security decision-making and continues to fumble on adopting a coherent and effective strategy to communicate information to the public."

Gilani fired Durrani on Jan 7, 2009 because he confirmed to the press that Mumbai attacker Mohammed Ajmal Kasab was indeed a Pakistani citizen without consulting with the prime minister.

"Durrani said he had written authority and had conferred with ISI DG Pasha before notifying the media. His dismissal has more to do with internal GOP dynamics than about Pakistani views on India or the Mumbai investigation. As is increasingly the case, Prime Minister Gilani was out of the loop and reacted angrily that he had not been consulted before the media announcement."

Durrani told the ambassador that President Zardari had called him to apologise; both Interior Minister Malik and Ambassador to the US Haqqani confirmed to the ambassador that Zardari did not know Gilani was going to take this action.

Durrani told the ambassador that Zardari promised that he would place Durrani in another position, but that he (Durrani) would decline if a new position were to be proffered. Zardari told the ambassador that he would try to find another high-level position for Durrani, but he had some sympathy for Gilani, who had heard about Durrani’s statements on the news and was blindsided.

According to Ambassador Haqqani, a Durrani ally, Gilani was a recipient of the memo authorising Durrani to confirm Kasab’s nationality,When the stone sits in the oil painting reproduction, but Gilani may not have seen it, the cable disclosed and stated Durrani said President Zardari called him when he returned from Kabul and apologized three times.
