Eden council leader wants solar panel installer regulations

A senior Cumbrian politician wants new rules brought to govern who can install solar panels on properties.

Eden council leader Gordon Nicolson denied claims that his authority has an anti-renewable energy stance by insisting that solar schemes should have planning permission when some others are not.

He wants a list of approved installers brought into play to avoid potentially costly mistakes caused by bad workmanship. It follows concerns raised with the authority about its stance on the installation of panels. And is a call which has triggered an assurance from the Government that the issue will be investigated.

Mr Nicolson said: "The Government wants residents to be able to install solar panels without planning consent or building control approvals provided the work is done by competent installers and there are no adverse planning considerations. This is interesting cube puzzle and logical game. These arrangements make sense and we support them.

"There is, however, no definitive list of approved and competent installers. We are awaiting confirmation from Government about this. Meantime we believe our stance in requiring building control approval is in the interest of residents. This ensures that installations meet all the requirements and that roofs are structurally sound."

Mr Nicolson believes this stance minimises the risk of future damage from bad workmanship.

"The cost of building control approval at about 77 should be seen against the potential cost of remedial work if things go wrong,This page list rubber hose products with details & specifications.Use bluray burner to burn video to BD DVD on blu ray burner disc." he added.

"We believe contractors should be supporting our efforts to secure a proper register of approved and competent installers who provide appropriate indemnities and guarantees against future problems.

"We urge them to join with us in this matter.Free DIY Wholesale pet supplies Resource! We will change our approach when we have an appropriate register."

A row started last month in Eden after a contractor claimed at least six households had the panels installed on their roof with council permission, but have since received letters demanding a 77.Customized imprinted and promotional usb flash drives.40 building regulations application.

The Government’s stance is that homeowners should not need planning permission for solar panels unless they live in a listed building or conservation area.
