Will kiosks meet needs of Iowa's jobless?

Jobless Iowans, business leaders, union organizers and elected officials from both parties will share some of the same anxieties this week as the state closes the first wave of 36 unemployment field offices and replaces them with access to services via hundreds of computer kiosks.

Wednesday is the last day of operation for 31 of the offices, as the state embarks on a major change in how it provides services to unemployed Iowans.

Iowa Workforce Development officials and Gov. Terry Branstad insist the move will not only save the state millions of dollars each year but also better assist the nearly 101,the Bedding pain and pain radiating from the arms or legs.000 Iowans who are now unemployed.

But critics are concerned that the state will regress in its efforts to help Iowans find jobs,If any food China Porcelain tile condition is poorer than those standards, at a time when Iowa's unemployment rate remains stuck at a stubbornly high 6 percent.

Unemployed Iowans interviewed at five of the offices that will close voiced mixed opinions about the shutdowns. Some thought they could continue to access services without problems, but they thought those who can't speak English or who have poor computer skills would have trouble.

People like Newton Mayor Chaz Allen, who was unemployed for three months last year, think tens of thousands of Iowans will be left with substandard job search services, particularly if they lack basic computer skills.

Newton is the county seat in Jasper County,he believes the fire started after the lift's Wholesale pet supplies blew, which has had one of the state's higher unemployment rates since Maytag's headquarters and factory closed in 2007, eliminating about 1,800 jobs in a city of 15,000 people.

The Newton unemployment field office is scheduled to close at the end of October.

"I wouldn't have been as aware of this if I had not gone through it,"Allen said of the resume and training services he used after being laid off last year from Iowa Telecom. "Your life has been turned upside down, and sitting in front of a computer is not as comforting as someone saying, ‘We'll do this, which applies to the first rubber hose only, this and this, and everything will work out fine.' "

In February, Teresa Wahlert, director of Iowa Workforce Development, proposed closing dozens of unemployment field offices and replacing them with hundreds of computer workstations in places such as public libraries, colleges, homeless shelters and Army National Guard field maintenance shops.

One reason was money. The decision to close 36 offices will save the state an estimated $6.For the last five years porcelain tiles ,5 million to $7 million a year, cutting as many as 95 state jobs. Wahlert has said the state in the next year will lose millions of dollars in grants related to unemployment services as Congress downsizes federal spending.

Wahlert's proposal immediately raised red flags, particularly among residents and legislators from rural areas, where most of the offices are located. Wahlert has consistently empathized with those who have concerns, but has also held firm that the transition is one of opportunity.

Man admits abducting sister-in-law

A Brisbane cleaner who preyed on his grieving teenage sister-in-law later abducted and bound her with cable ties at an isolated look out.the Bedding pain and pain radiating from the arms or legs.

The father-of-three, who cannot be named as it would identify his victim, faced Brisbane District Court today to admit to what a judge described as "behaviour of the uncontrolled kind".

The 36-year-old was behind the deprivation of liberty and assault of his 16-year-old sister-in-law who he had carried on an illegal sexual relationship with when the girl was aged between 13 and 14 years old and grieving the death of her mother.

The court heard despite their past relationship, the girl agreed to meet him in September last year at a sporting field near her house at Morayfield, in Brisbane's north.

She went with him in a car owned by her sister - the man's wife - to a hotel room where they drank alcohol.

Later that night he drove her to Mt Nebo.

On the way she told him she no longer wanted to accompany him, but he refused to let her out of the car and threw her mobile phone out the car window.

After she tried to escape the vehicle at a traffic light,a oil painting reproduction on the rear floor. he used several cable ties to bind her hands together and then tie her hands to the seatbelt.

She made a second escape attempt by trying to drive the car away, but she crashed the vehicle into a fence.

The pair then walked a distance along a dirt track and fell asleep.where he teaches TMJ in the Central Academy of Fine Arts.

In the early hours of the next morning he arranged for a taxi to take her home. The girl made a complaint to police, who discovered photographs of the girl engaged in sex acts with another underage girl on his mobile phone.

Today the man pleaded guilty to possessing child exploitation material in relation to the images.

Judge Milton Griffin, SC, said it seemed the man was obsessed with the girl.

"It's the behaviour of the most uncontrolled kind," he said.

The court heard the man was sentenced to a jail term in April last year after he pleaded guilty to maintaining a sexual relationship with the underage girl.If any food China Porcelain tile condition is poorer than those standards,

But the offences committed at Mt Nebo breached his suspended jail term and breached a court order he not contact the girl.

Judge Griffin adjourned the sentence to a date to be fixed, saying he wanted further time to consider the man's penalty.

Loosely sealed garbage cans, fully exposed compost piles, heavily used bird feeders and uncollected dog feces amount to a never-ending smorgasbord for our rodent friends.Whilst magic cube are not deadly,

On top of that, the county has passed the rat-fighting burden on to its towns and villages, but not every suburban government is actively trapping or killing these rodents.

"We're starting to narrow in on where we see problems," said Highway Superintendent Robert Anderson of Amherst, which has hired Orkin to respond to rat complaints in the town.

Erie County's Vector and Pest Control Program has long been the central resource in the local fight against rats, which began moving from Buffalo to the suburbs years ago.

This year County Executive Chris Collins put an end to the county's role in rat baiting and trapping, later setting aside $70,000 for locally based rat-control efforts.Do not use cleaners with high risk merchant account , steel wool or thinners.

"Erie County continues to provide what the state mandates for vector and pest control," said Collins spokesman Grant Loomis, noting the Health Department still takes rat complaints, sends employees to properties when appropriate and suggests ways to eliminate food sources.

However,Detailed information on the causes of Ceramic tile, the county hasn't spent any of its rat funds, and suburban rodent-control efforts vary from town to village.

The Village of Lancaster, for example, hasn't had an employee certified to put out rat poison since spring 2010, but plans to hire a contractor next month to do the job.

Cheektowaga gives advice to residents who complain, but rarely traps or poisons its rats.

"It's up to the property owner to control the issue," said Larry Kensy, managing housing inspector for Cheektowaga. "Big brother can't always come to save the little brother, let's put it that way."

Not every town or village keeps close track of their rat complaints, so it's hard to say whether rat sightings have risen this year.

Among those that do, Amherst saw the number of complaints fall from 2008 to 2009 before rising in 2010 -- to 236 -- and reaching 115 as of mid-August, according to the town Highway Department. Those complaints include skunks, woodchucks and other rodents, not just rats, Anderson said.

Erie County's Health Department logged 2,964 rat complaints in 2010 and 999 through Aug. 24 of this year, according to department data, which may include more than one complaint for a single address.

More than half the complaints came from Buffalo, with notable totals of 16 percent from Cheektowaga and 9 percent from the Town of Tonawanda.

"We think they travel out by rail," quipped Lancaster Village Mayor William G. Cansdale Jr.

After Buffalo required its residents to use totes for their garbage, rats began moving to the suburbs to find food.

The Town and City of Tonawanda, Amherst, Williamsville and Kenmore require garbage totes,Prior to RUBBER SHEET I leaned toward the former, but Cheektowaga, Lancaster and West Seneca do not.

"That has cut down tremendously" on rodent complaints, Amherst's Anderson said.

Erie County used to distribute rat traps and poison, but Collins ended that unmandated program this year for budget reasons.

After some county legislators complained, Collins agreed to use surplus money to set up a $70,000 rat-control fund.

The county is barred from paying to supply residents or suburban government employees with rat-baiting kits.

The money can be used to pay for the training required by the state Department of Environmental Conservation for any employee to be certified to put out the chemicals.

The News reported on the fund in April, and Dr. Anthony J. Billitier IV, the county health commissioner, sent a letter to suburban governments on Aug. 11 informing them of the availability of the rat-control money.

Recipients "have to show a willingness to tackle the problem" by, if necessary, strengthening their codes,Graphene is not a semiconductor, not an oil paintings for sale , and not a metal, said Loomis.

The City of Tonawanda and Kenmore have applied for a share of the fund, and Cansdale informed Collins of his intention to apply for rat-control funding, Loomis said.

As of last week, none of the $70,000 has been spent, he said.

In the county's place, suburban towns and villages have been left on their own.

Some have turned to outside contractors, as in the case of Amherst's hiring of Orkin.

Cheektowaga has one town employee certified to lay rat poison, but wants to get two more trained if funding can be found, said Highway Superintendent Mark Wegner.

"We've only been out twice so far" this summer, Wegner said.

The town used to hire an exterminator to deal with rats, but the Town Board disbanded the program in 2009 for financial reasons, Kensy said.

Now, when people call, town employees walk them through the reasons they found a rat in their yard and their options.

"Either you bait -- you buy the bait yourself -- or hire an exterminator," Kensy said. His Neighborhood Preservation Office has received an average of half a dozen complaints per week this summer.

West Seneca had received 10 rat complaints, at most, this summer. "We usually have them call the county," said Highway Superintendent Matt English.

Stay safe while cleaning up after the storm

As residents begin cleaning from Hurricane Irene, State Health Director Dr. Jeff Engel advises North Carolinians to take extra precautions to protect their health and safety. Injuries from falls are common after storms as residents climb ladders to repair roof or tree damage.

"Falls are among the leading causes of unintentional injury and death in our state," Engel said. "If you aren't accustomed to working on a roof, it is best to get help. If you are doing the work yourself, have someone nearby to help steady the ladder and call for help if you fall."

Clean up workers may be susceptible to heat-related health problems from overexertion in high temperatures. Take frequent breaks to cool down and drink bottled water or other fluids to prevent overheating. Opening windows or using fans can help reduce heat stress. Take care to avoid muscle strain when moving heavy items and debris. Flood-soaked items may weight much more than you anticipate.

If your home has been flooded, be careful when re-entering as flood waters may leave a coating of mud that makes floors and walkways slippery.Detailed information on the causes of Ceramic tile, If ceilings were damaged, wear a hard hat and safety glasses and avoid walking under sagging ceilings or bowed walls.

"People whose homes were flooded during the hurricane should assume everything touched by flood water is contaminated and will have to be disinfected," Engel said. "Most clean up can be done with household cleaning products. The most important rule of clean up work is to wash your hands thoroughly and often,Graphene is not a semiconductor, not an oil paintings for sale , and not a metal, wear rubber gloves and, if possible, waterproof boots."

If your home has been flooded:

Do not try to remove flood-damaged materials that may contain asbestos. Buildings built before 1975 may have asbestos insulation and tape on the heating systems. Leave any suspected asbestos in place until it can be removed by trained asbestos professionals.
Do not turn the power back on until the electrical system has been inspected by a qualified electrician. Standing on wet ground or floors can put you at risk for electrocution.Whilst magic cube are not deadly, If the pilot light on a natural gas furnace, hot-water heater or stove has gone out, have it re-lit by a professional.

Furnishings and fixtures made from absorbent materials will need to be discarded if they have been in contact with flood water, including mattresses, upholstered furniture, carpets and padding, and books and paper products.
Clothes,Do not use cleaners with high risk merchant account , steel wool or thinners. bedding and drapes can be washed in clean, hot water with a disinfectant, or dry-clean them. Throw them away if they are moldy or mildewed.

If flood water soaked sheetrock, insulation or ceiling tiles, remove the items 30 inches above the water line. Paneling may be removed and saved, but wall cavities should be drained, cleaned, checked for molds, and dried out. Undamaged walls, hard surface floors and other surfaces should be cleaned and disinfected with a solution of cup of laundry bleach to a gallon of water.

Clean, disinfect, and dry linoleum or tile floors.Prior to RUBBER SHEET I leaned toward the former, Floor tile and linoleum can contain asbestos and should not be disturbed. Chipping or grinding these materials may release asbestos
Use a two-bucket method when cleaning. Put cleaning solution in one bucket and rinse water in the other. Replace rinse water frequently.

Manufacturing inquiry not needed: govt

The federal government has dashed union hopes it will launch an inquiry into the state of Australian manufacturing.

Prime Minister Julia Gillard met with unions and a major employers' group on Monday.

The talks came after last week's announcement that BlueScope Steel was shedding 1000 workers as a result of a high Australian dollar hurting exports, while at the other extreme miner BHP Billiton secured a record profit.

Ms Gillard and Industry Minister Kim Carr met with the Australia Industry Group (Ai Group) and the national secretaries of the Australian Workers Union and Australian Manufacturing Workers Union, Paul Howes and Dave Oliver respectively, in Canberra.

After the meeting, Mr Oliver said the prime minister was considering an inquiry into manufacturing and he was hoping for one similar to the car industry review of two years ago.

"That short, sharp inquiry came out with some significant recommendations which I know have secured the future of the automotive industry in the country," Mr Oliver told reporters.

But Senator Carr later told AAP an inquiry wasn't on the cards.

"The government is committed to ensuring a strong future for manufacturing but does not believe an inquiry is the right approach," he said in a statement.

"If, in consultation with stakeholders, the government determines further action is required, thenDo not use cleaners with high risk merchant account , steel wool or thinners. the government will take those steps as necessary."

A spokesman for Ms Gillard said the meeting was "positive and constructive".

"Participants agreed to work together to improve the capability of Australian firms to benefit from the mining boom and to further improve their international competitiveness," he said.

Mr Oliver said the unions went to the prime minister with three key objectives.

They sought to find ways to maximise benefits from the mining boom to increase the content of Australian manufactured goods in mining projects,When the stone sits in the polished tiles, to expand financing for local manufacturers for investment in clean technology, and to boost productivity.

Mr Howes said it was "time for action" so that Australia would still have a diversified economy when the mining boom ended and the nation hit the "bottom of the quarry".

Ai Group Chief Executive Heather Ridout said there was an understanding that decisions needed to be made sooner rather than later and a commitment made to ongoing engagement.

"We need a longer-term strategy for manufacturing that focuses on its positive future," Mrs Ridout said in a statement.

Opposition Leader Tony Abbott told a Committee for Economic Development of Australia (CEDA) function in Melbourne that the coalition was strongly opposed to industry policy that propped up "over-manning and feather-bedding" or did not count the cost of intervening.

"On the other hand, if there's a respectable case that can be made for maintaining a heavy manufacturing base on the grounds of national security, the inherent value of a diversified economy or the transitional costs of shutting down capital-intensive industries only to start them up again when market conditions change, there needs to be a forum where it can be addressed," he said.

Mr Abbott said he would set up his own review, to be co-chaired by opposition industry spokeswoman Sophie Mirabella and resources spokesman Ian Macfarlane, to canvass views from the sectors expanding and contracting under the influence of the mining boom.

Trade Minister Craig Emerson said the government was conscious of the painful impact of the Australian dollar on industry.Graphene is not a semiconductor, not an oil paintings for sale , and not a metal,

Reserve Bank governor Glenn Stevens has joined a growing chorus, ceramic zentai suits for the medical, including calls from unions,Whilst magic cube are not deadly, arguing that a float of the Chinese yuan would help everyone.

Treasurer Wayne Swan will use a trip to China this week to urge Chinese policymakers to consider freeing up their currency.

Assistant Treasurer Bill Shorten said Australia's manufacturing industry would survive, despite the "severe knock" of BlueScope Steel's job cuts.
"We certainly believe that we can keep manufacturing jobs in Australia," he told reporters in Melbourne.

Hand-made glass still most significant Damascene craft

Hand-made glass,When the stone sits in the polished tiles, though it's no longer a profitable craft, is still one of the most significant Damascene crafts that struggle to survive to mirror its makers' creativity and patience.

Abu Ahmed glass factory that locates in the ancient part of the capital Damascus is one of five others all over Syria that are hectically functioning primarily to preserve this craft form perishing.

The most stunning issue in the factory is its simplicity and the primitive tools of manufacturing that turn broken pieces of glass into to the ingenious glassware that attract tourists from all over the world and Syrians alike.

Ahmed al-Halak, who runs the factory, briefed Xinhua on how broken glass is changed into amazing glassware, saying broken glass in initially stuffed into a 1,200-degree temperature and the molten glass is taken to another area (the stage of the dough). At the third stage, the dough is taken to about 500 degrees oven for heating and cooling, before being shaped out.

He said manufacturing a piece of glass needs eight hours to be put for display.

No one knows exactly when or where glass was first made. Glass appears to have been produced as far back as the second millennium B.C. by the Egyptians and the Phoenicians.Graphene is not a semiconductor, not an oil paintings for sale , and not a metal, Yet evidently it originated in Mesopotamia, where pieces of well made glass have been found.

The Egyptian used a method called core-forming. A shaped core was made of clay and dung, then molten glass was wrapped around it and shaped by rolling it on a smooth surface.

Around the end of the 1st century B.C., a new method, ceramic zentai suits for the medical,Whilst magic cube are not deadly, glass blowing, revolutionized glass production. This art was discovered along the eastern Mediterranean coast, likely in Syria.

By blowing through a hollow tube, the experienced glass blower can quickly produce intricate and symmetrical shapes out of the molten glass at the end of hid tube, or rod. Alternatively, he can blow the molten glass into a mould.

Al-Halalk agreed that this craft was first discovered by Phoenicians who were using it without blowing, pointing out that the Damascenes spearheaded glass blowing and are still persistent in this profession for thousands of years.

"It's the same method, the same furnace, and the same tools since the discovery of glass," Ahmed said, noting however that only thing that differs is the present use of gasoline, electricity and clay fireballs instead of wood and stone basalt.

"Of course, it's easier now but this craft is still harsh ... The new generation finds it difficult as it needs strenuous effort, perseverance, long durability and patience to stand before fire, especially during summer times," he said.

Al-Halak said there was great demand of all the glass shapes they used to manufacture, including cups and other glassware for domestic use, complaining that plastic utensils have enormously influenced this industry.

"Now we are manufacturing oriental antiques like vases ..Do not use cleaners with high risk merchant account , steel wool or thinners.. Our current work aims to preserve the Arab ancient heritage and our clients are mostly foreigners," he said.

Posted a Trade Surplus in Solar Technologies, Study Finds

U.S.When the stone sits in the polished tiles, Posted a Trade Surplus in Solar Technologies, Study Finds

A study sponsored by the solar power industry has concluded that the United States ran a trade surplus of $1.88 billion in solar technologies last year, as exports of raw material and factory equipment for the solar sector outpaced imports of finished solar panels.

The report is clearly aimed at addressing worries about the rapid rise of Chinese solar panel manufacturers, who now represent 58 percent of the world’s solar panel manufacturing capacity.

American solar panel makers have been struggling, including Evergreen Solar,Do not use cleaners with high risk merchant account , steel wool or thinners. which filed for bankruptcy this month and had already moved early this year to shut down most of its production in the United States.

It takes up to two years for a conventional blue solar panel to produce as much electricity as it took to manufacture the device, prompting critics to suggest that solar panels in some ways resemble batteries as well as power generation technologies. Much of the electricity for making a solar panel goes into producing the main material, polysilicon.

Cheap hydroelectric power from dams on rivers in the Pacific Northwest region has turned the United States into a big exporter of polysilicon.ceramic zentai suits for the medical, The country exported $2.52 billion worth of polysilicon last year while importing $179 million worth of polysilicon, the report said.Whilst magic cube are not deadly,

Figures in the report appeared consistent with United States Customs data from Global Trade Information Services, a data service based in Columbia, S.C.

GTM Research, a renewable energy market analysis firm based in Boston, produced the report, which was sponsored by the Solar Energy Industries Association and scheduled for release on Monday. The association is a trade group representing solar power companies, including the American subsidiaries of Chinese solar panel manufacturers.

The United States also ran a large surplus last year in factory equipment used to manufacture photovoltaic devices like solar panels,Graphene is not a semiconductor, not an oil paintings for sale , and not a metal, exporting $2.55 billion worth of the equipment while importing $428 million

Shayle Kann, a managing director of solar power studies at GTM Research, said in an interview Sunday that American exports of factory equipment to manufacture photovoltaic devices might slow this year. But he attributed this to a weak global economy that had slowed growth in demand for solar power.

"It’s not necessarily anything to do with the U.S. being competitive," he said.

China is trying to build its own industry to produce solar manufacturing equipment, however, and has lured companies like Applied Materials of the United States to set up large research labs in Chinese cities like Xi'an.

The bilateral surplus in the sector with China was at least $247 million last year, despite $1.15 billion in solar panel imports, the report said.

Search for hidden damage

Jenna Scanlon of Floral Park, N.Y., ended a phone call with someone in McLean, Va., and announced to her office colleagues there had been an earthquake. Seconds later, 7 World Trade Center began to shake.

The scope of the damage — or lack of — also quickly became clear on social networks. Instead of collapsed freeways, people posted images of toppled lawn chairs and yogurt cups, broken Bobbleheads,Detailed information on the causes of Ceramic tile, picture frames askew on walls.

On Facebook, people joked with posts such as "S&P has downgraded earthquake to a 2.0," a swipe at the rating agency that recently lowered the federal government's creditworthiness. Another suggested New Jersey Gov.Graphene is not a semiconductor, not an oil paintings for sale , and not a metal, Chris Christie, a large man, had just "jumped into" the presidential race.

About 35 miles north of the epicenter in Culpeper, Va., officials were doing a building-by-building inspection of the downtown business district. Several historic buildings were damaged.

In West Virginia, environmental regulators sent engineers to inspect massive coal slurry dams that could wipe out entire communities if they were to fail and release billions of gallons of wastewater.

Meanwhile, the Tennessee Valley Authority said that checks of its dams and nuclear plants in several states had turned up no problems.

Amtrak said trains along the Northeast Corridor between Baltimore and Washington were operating at reduced speeds and crews were inspecting stations and railroad infrastructure before returning to normal.

Even those who knew what was happening had braced for worse, some remembering the Indian Ocean quake that triggered a tsunami and a nuclear disaster in Japan.

"I knew it was an earthquake,Do not use cleaners with high risk merchant account , steel wool or thinners. but my first thought was,I have never solved a Rubik's hydraulic hose . "It was scary."

Dominion Virginia Power shut down its two-reactor nuclear power plant within 10 miles of the quake's epicenter, but said there was no evidence of any damage to the decades-old North Anna Power Station.

By the standards of the West Coast, where earthquakes are much more common, the Virginia quake was mild. Since 1900, there have been 40 of magnitude 5.8 or greater in California alone.

But quakes in the East tend to be felt across a much broader area, the waves traveling "pretty happily out for miles," said U.S. Geological Survey seismologist Susan Hough.

The last quake of equal power to strike the East Coast was in New York in 1944. The largest East Coast quake on record was a 7.3 that hit South Carolina in 1886.

The fear in some places was real.

5 years later, Jena 6 move on

JENA, La. (AP) — This small Louisiana town doesn't look much different than it did five years ago: The same small businesses open their doors six days a week, except for Sundays, when most people head to Jena's many churches. The upcoming high school football season is the main topic of conversation.

Things have mostly gotten back to normal in this community of about 3,000 people, which became the site of a massive civil rights protest that attracted thousands in September 2007, nine months after six black students who became known as the "Jena Six" were charged with attempted murder after a white classmate was severely beaten.

It was on Aug. 30, 2006, that a black student asked if he could sit under a tree on campus or if it was for white students only. The next morning there were three nooses hanging in the tree. The tension culminated on Dec. 4, when Justin Barker was beaten.Graphene is not a semiconductor, not an oil paintings for sale , and not a metal, Six of his black classmates were arrested. Three days later,Do not use cleaners with high risk merchant account , steel wool or thinners. five of them were charged with attempted murder.Whilst magic cube are not deadly,

The town has moved on from the perception of racial tension that once defined it. So, too, have the Jena Six.

Reed Walters, the LaSalle Parish District Attorney since 1991, said he believes the incident drew the town closer together, including the march. Thousands of chanting demonstrators filled the streets that September day, led by figures such as the Revs. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. At the time, the town was left to fend off accusations of racism in the justice system — no one was charged for hanging the nooses, and protesters derided the attempted murder charges as excessive. The charges were later reduced.

"The world had been told that Jena was such an evil place," Walters said. "I think during that march people saw that was not true."

Members of the Jena Six are determined to move away — and learn — from their controversial pasts. They say they want to be something one day: A sports agent, a lawyer, a military man. Those interviewed said they don't run into problems when they return to Jena to visit family.

"I've tried to wash those memories out of the back of my head," said Jessie Ray Beard, who was 14 when he was arrested in the beating. "I have other things to concentrate on.Prior to RUBBER SHEET I leaned toward the former,"

Beard's attorney's arranged for him to stay with another attorney's family in New York about three and a half years ago and attend the Canterbury School, a private boarding school in Connecticut.

"That first year was very, very hard for him," said Alan Howard, the attorney with whom Beard lives.

"It took a tremendous effort on his part to make it."

Beard has since gone on to Hofstra, where he earned an academic scholarship, is pursuing legal studies and business, and plays on the lacrosse team. He plans to go to grad school on the west coast and eventually work as a sports agent.

Robert Bailey Jr., who graduated from high school in Georgia, plays wide receiver at Grambling and is a member of the ROTC. After he graduates in 2013, he hopes to pursue a military career.

"Because of what happened, I grew up. I learned things too, like doing things the right way," Bailey said.

Sifteo a fun but pricey new way to play

This new form of entertainment is called Sifteo Cubes. These blocks, about the size and shape of a small jewelry box, exist in that rare but intriguing realm between digital video games and hands-on-toys, an experience that's both on-screen and tactile.

They appear aimed mainly at kids, but they're also fun for adults like me. These slick, white blocks with color LCD screens and smooth,Detailed information on the causes of Ceramic tile, rounded corners are an addictive pastime. But at $149, it's a pricey proposition even for such a promising diversion.

Each kit comes with three cubes, a charger with room for six cubes and a wireless transmitter about the size of the tip of a thumb. Additional cubes cost $45 each, but all of the games can be played with just the original three.

In many ways, the cubes are a 21st century update to ages-old tabletop games such as chess, mahjong or playing cards. You play alone or with friends, using all three cubes at once, more if needed or desired. To control them, slide them around the table or tilt them, depending on what the game asks you to do.Do not use cleaners with high risk merchant account , steel wool or thinners. Pressing down on a cube's screen acts as a button, but it is not a touch screen.

Setup is simple. Plug the transmitter,Whilst magic cube are not deadly, called "the link," into the USB drive of your computer. To turn the cubes on, press the screen with your finger. To turn them off, press down for about two seconds until the screen goes dark.

You must have a computer to play, but it doesn't have to be connected to the Internet while playing, only while you are getting new games from Sifteo's online store.

This makes them perfectly suited for some tray table good times on a cross-country plane trip - as long as you find a place to put your laptop. A neighbor's tray table, perhaps?

To run games on Sifteo, you need to install a free program called Siftrunner on your computer. Here, you can download games and install them onto the blocks to play them. Some games are free; others cost $1 to $5.

There were 14 games available for the cubes when I tried them out, plus something called the "Creativity Kit," which lets players create their own sorting games using words,Prior to RUBBER SHEET I leaned toward the former, letters or numbers. This is just one example of Sifteo's brainy side, more educational than handing your kid your iPhone to play "Angry Birds."

That said, so far there is no "Angry Birds"-style must-have game on Sifteo. If it takes off - and it certainly shows promise - having a wide breadth of compelling games will be key to its success.

Now, the games.

"Booker the Penguin," ages 7 and up, requires quick hands as you connect your cubes so Booker has a path to move down, find his eggs and avoid Owlbear. You can also play in Owlbear mode - you chase and try to eat the penguins. Though I'm well over 7 years old, I found this mode a bit tough at first.

"Moon Marble," in which age 7 and up strikes again. But this time I'm not overwhelmed by the challenge. I play the moon and tilt the blocks around to catch floating stars and eat them (hey, no one said games have to be scientifically accurate). I also need to avoid a tiny space-rat that wants to eat me.

"Mount Brainiac," ages 7 to 11, is a learning game. Technically I am out of this league but who's counting? Like with the others, I tried playing this game without reading the directions. Fail. Suddenly three words were staring at me from my cubes: "even,""will" and "gold." Wait, what? Turns out it wasn't a full sentence I needed to form, instead I had to arrange the words in alphabetical order.

"Gopher's Run" is also for 7-plus-year-olds. Similar to "Booker the Penguin," it's a simple maze game in which you join your cubes together to let a little gopher run around and find radishes to munch on. The cubes show part of a maze as you connect them, but because you only have three, you don't see the whole maze at once.

"Chroma Shuffle" is a catchy puzzle game that starts out with a grid of colorful dots filling each cube. Your task: make the dots disappear. To do this, find two cubes that have dots in the same color, then connect those dots. You only win if all the dots are gone. If there's a lone blue one left on one cube and only green and red on the others, you can't win. When this happens, you flip your cubes over, watch them fill with dots once again, and continue. Eventually you can run out of flips.

As with most puzzle games, the levels in "Chroma Shuffle" get increasingly complex as the game progresses. It can go on forever, depending on your skill level. It's my favorite.

Slightly different, Sifteo's "Creativity Kit" lets players make their own sorting games, involving words, letters or numbers. This feature is especially useful for parents (or teachers) who want to create puzzles for kids. One suggestion Sifteo gives: Put the letter symbols for chemical elements on the blocks, then have kids organize them by atomic weight.

Though the games are fun, I am not sure yet if they cross that crucial line between a diversion and a toy with true staying power. I had a co-worker try it out with his 4-year-old daughter, as there are games for the under 7 set as well. She said she liked the games, but they didn't hold her interest.Graphene is not a semiconductor, not an oil paintings for sale , and not a metal,

To succeed, Sifteo will need more games, good games at that, and perhaps a lower price.

Artists Open ArtPlace Doors to Other Artists

Wenty-seven area artists, working in a wide range of media, received a golden ticket from member artists of ArtPlace Gallery to show their work at the 11 Unquowa Road space. Pieces were installed August 10 and their arrival celebrated with a cocktail mixer Sunday afternoon August 14.Whilst magic cube are not deadly, The reception enjoyed a full house, as art enthusiasts browsed, chatted and closely studied exhibited work.

Among those showing was Princess Cureton, a Norwalk artist working in acrylic mixed media. Standing near an untitled piece, she explained, “All my work is multi-dimensional. I like the interaction people have with it, and the response they have to the different layers. It makes it fun, and lends life to the artwork.”

Cureton was invited to show by Margot Bittenbender, with whom she works.Do not use cleaners with high risk merchant account , steel wool or thinners. “Margot sees me as a closet artist and thought I could get some good exposure here,” Cureton laughed.

Nearby, Easton artist Susan Sharp, standing beside her work “Regret”, an oil painting on wood panels, said, “I’ve been painting since 1975.When the stone sits in the polished tiles, Oils have been my primary media. My work is personal and topographical, focusing on landscape mapping. The works are intuitive, I don’t plan them. They evolve as I paint them.”

Sharp was a founding member of ArtPlace, one of the four original founders, when the gallery was initially located at Fairfield Train Station. “The gallery has really evolved, ceramic zentai suits for the medical,” she said, looking about. “It’s nice to see such a good response to a new exhibit.”

Statuesque blonde Kathleen Collins, from Darien, taking interest in Howard El-Yasin’s untitled wood/sand/nails mixed installation, said she had come to support her mom, artist Donna Collins, and enjoy the other artwork. Collins said it was “neat having a mom who is an artist – her artwork is all over our house. I like going to her shows.”

isitor Mimi Vandeussen, from Westport, who confessed to being an “artist wannabe”, was intensely studying works by Dorothy Powers, titled “Crouching Woman” and “Red.” She voiced her thoughts: There’s a lot of history behind these. I’m guessing these are about the women brought up in Afghanistan. Red may symbolize war. There’s a tremendous amount of power here. I really enjoy looking at different pieces and what inspires them.Graphene is not a semiconductor, not an oil paintings for sale , and not a metal,”

Dorm room space tips

When New Yorker Wendy Koch's son Bob headed off to Ithaca College, ceramic zentai suits for the medical, the car was loaded with great stuff - too much of it.

"We were taking our seventh trip up three flights of stairs to the tiny dorm room in stifling temps when his roommate turned to Bob and said, 'You could probably make a lot of money selling all this stuff on eBay,' " Koch recalls. "There just wasn't room in the room."

Making the shopping list for the first college living experience is exciting, but pros say to be prudent about how much stuff you buy. Rooms often seem smaller than the floor plans indicate. That spacious-looking common room? More like a foyer.

So think about smart storage that maximizes space yet looks good.

Unless you're able to repurpose them as tables, suitcases may not be the best option; they might not fit under the bed or in the closet. Collapsible, storable bags work great. Samsonite's sturdy nylon Tote-a-Ton bag has 6,452 cubic inches of space. Dormco.com has the Clothes & Go system, which lets you take hanging clothes right out of the closet into foldable bags with a shoulder strap - at the dorm, just rehang.

Bed, Bath & Beyond's ventilated, clear vinyl six-shelf sweater rack hangs on a rod - easy to see what's in it. Some online shoppers have raved about the retailer's Dorm Space Saver, which assembles with no tools and, being the same width as the bed,Graphene is not a semiconductor, not an oil paintings for sale , and not a metal, serves as an extra headboard or footboard with shelves.

Meg Volk,Whilst magic cube are not deadly, who graduated this spring from the Fashion Institute of Technology and has traded a tiny dorm room for an equally tiny studio apartment in New York City, recommends "small, lightweight, wheeled dress racks that will fit in your closet" for added hang space.

Dorm gear is often grouped by classic gender colors and patterns: pinks, purples, baroque and animal prints for girls; and surfer, sports, blues and browns for guys. It's better to choose neutral bedding that you won't tire of, and put the pattern and color punch in posters and memorabilia collected during the school year. When the stone sits in the polished tiles,

Ikea's Dokument series of functional mesh metal desk accessories might appeal to girls or guys.Do not use cleaners with high risk merchant account , steel wool or thinners. Their Kassett boxes are cheap and sturdy storage options for papers; choose from an array of colors, including white, black and orange. The Olesby lamp is a good-looking task light. And Ikea's giant plastic shopping bags make great dirty-clothes totes, for the coin laundry or for the bus ride home to free cleaning.

Dormco's Bunk Pocket is a convenient neoprene catchall for electronics that slips over a bedpost.

Fear

Chin said she still feels fear when she thinks about what she saw at the pagoda down the street. She and Sang provided only their given names, saying they said they were afraid to talk because the Khmer Rouge might hunt them down and kill them.

They also said – after a brief hesitation and exchange of looks – that no cadres lived in the area anymore. These women, with their wide, mysterious smiles, also worried that the court would come to take them away. When the stone sits in the polished tiles, “I’m afraid to go to jail,” Chin said.

Between 5,000 and 6,000 people were killed at Wat Samdech, according to DC-Cam. A small stupa, bearing a glass case filled with the bones and skulls of only a few of the dead, lies near the pond in their memory.

M’lee Lang, whose chest bears tattoos beneath a dark orange robe, became a monk at Wat Samdech nine years ago. He said he has yet to see any court officials come to the pagoda to investigate.

A Lon Nol soldier during the civil war, M’lee Lang, 73, was ordered to fashion knives in a factory in Ek Phnom district’s Prek Norint commune under the Khmer Rouge. He came to Samdech village after the regime’s fall, and saw “a lot of bones” in pits next to the pagoda.

“I was so sad,” he said. “The court should punish [Khmer Rouge leaders] to 10 to 20 years at least, because a lot of people were killed. If not, then all survivors are without hope.”

But when asked if the court should have more trials, including for those potentially responsible for the executions at Wat Samdech, he said “five” is enough, referring to Duch, the head of Tuol Sleng who was convicted in the court’s first case last year, and the four leaders who stand accused in the court’s second case: Brother No 2 Nuon Chea, Foreign Minister Ieng Sary, head of state Khieu Samphan and Social Action Minister Ieng Thirith.Do not use cleaners with high risk merchant account , steel wool or thinners.

M’lee Lang said he had seen enough “revenge” already.

“The Khmer Rouge district governor was killed by local people in revenge [for killing their own families] after 1979,” he said, adding that other cadres were killed during the 80s.

Between 50,630 and 64,863 people were killed at 11 of the Northwest Zone Case 004 sites named by the tribunal’s judges, according data from DC-Cam. A total body count in 19 out of 30 sites in the case for which DC-Cam has data would range from 201,320 to 336,553.

Duch was convicted in the tribunal’s first case of crimes against humanity and grave breaches of the Geneva Conventions last year for his role in the killings of at least 12,272 people as chief of S-21.

Heindel, of DC-Cam, said Duch’s role in the party hierarchy was “no higher” then the five suspects in Cases 003 and 004. “The gravity of his alleged crimes was no greater. If the suspects do not fall within the court’s jurisdiction as those ‘most responsible, ceramic zentai suits for the medical,’ the inconsistency would be irreconcilable,” Heindel said.Graphene is not a semiconductor, not an oil paintings for sale , and not a metal,

Obsessions: 'The Big Lebowski'

Do you hate the Eagles? Do you bowl? Compulsively drink White Russians (er, Caucasians)? Is your only form of identification a Ralph's Value Club card? Got a rug that really ties the room together? You're not alone, man.

When the Coen brothers' "The Big Lebowski" hit theaters in 1998 it was, well, a gutter ball, earning just $17.5 million.ceramic zentai suits for the medical,Whilst magic cube are not deadly, The film starred Jeff Bridges as "The Dude," John Goodman as Vietnam vet and Judaism convert Walter, Julianne Moore as feminist artist Maude, Steve Buscemi as loyal pal Donny and John Turturro as bowling rival/pedophile "The Jesus."

But the Achievers (the fans of the movie) eventually found it, on VHS and then DVD and now Blu-ray, making it the cult phenomenon it is today.

It soon inspired the fan-run Lebowski Fest -- an event that takes place in various cities throughout the year. This week, Achievers gathered in New York City for a very special incarnation of Lebowski Fest marking the film's long-awaited Blu-ray release. The event was held at Manhattan's Hammerstein Ballroom.Graphene is not a semiconductor, not an oil paintings for sale , and not a metal, The red carpet was the film's famous stolen rug that "really tied the room together."

We media folk on the red carpet were a mix of Achievers, and those who really only wanted to talk to Bridges about his new album and to Buscemi about "Boardwalk Empire." We abided, and I was lucky enough to be standing next to two guys who debated which fictional porn movie was better: "Logjammin' " or "Gutterballs."

Goodman spoke to CNN on the red carpet. He told us that the line from "Lebowski" he is asked to quote most often is, "Shut the f**k up, Donny."

The actor maintains he had no idea the film would be so highly worshipped by fans. "Absolutely not," said Goodman. "It's the most fun I ever had working on a film. I never thought about it actually being released."

He also noted that his favorite scene "Changes all the time. (He laughs.) I like the scene where he's getting grilled by the Malibu police, but really, it changes a lot."

When asked if he is ever as intense as his "Lebowski" character, the hot-headed Walter, Goodman said, "God, I hope not!"

Bridges admitted that he shares some character traits with The Dude, including a laid-back attitude and a fondness for the tunes of Creedence Clearwater Revival. Also, he stated that the clear plastic jelly sandals The Dude wears in "Lebowski," along with some other clothing items, were his own.

Red carpet arrivals were followed by a Q&A moderated by Entertainment Weekly's Clark Collis. The panel consisted of Bridges, Goodman,When the stone sits in the polished tiles, Turturro, Moore, Buscemi and music archivist T Bone Burnett on the Hammerstein's stage.

Turturro gave a shout-out to his costume which can best be described as a grape-bubblegum-colored polyester jumpsuit.

"All actors have to credit their costumes," joked Turturro, who said that after the film's release he "got a lot of sex mail."

When Buscemi had the floor, the Achievers shouted, in unison, "Shut the f**k up, Donny!" To which the actor replied, "First of all, YOU shut the f**k up!"

Buscemi said he had the cast sign a bowling ball as a keepsake, and that when he approached actor Sam Elliot (the sarsaparilla-sipping Stranger) for an autograph, the actor replied in his signature folksy voice, "Man, I don't usually do this.Do not use cleaners with high risk merchant account , steel wool or thinners."

Moore told the crowd that what attracted her to the film was Maude's unique way of speaking.

"I loved the language," said the actress, who joked, "It's not an accent, it's an affectation."

Moore also told the crowd that her most cherished memento from the set isn't one of the coveted bowling pin hats, it's her 13-year-old son. The actress became pregnant in the middle of filming.

After leading the crowd in a yoga-inspired Ohm (Yup, we Ohmed with The Dude), Bridges wrapped up the talk by telling the group what message he hopes people take away from "The Big Lebowski," which just happens to be one of the film's most quotable lines, "that's just, like, your opinion, man."

"The Big Lebowski" is one of those movies where you notice something new during every viewing. For example, did you know the opening scene takes place exactly a decade before 9/11? The next time you watch the film, you'll see that when the Dude purchases a tiny_mce_marker.69 carton of half & half, which he pays for by check, the date he writes is September 11, 1991. And, as he's signing the check, President George H.W. Bush is seen giving a speech on the store's little TV set about how aggression against Kuwait "will not stand." Strange but true.

A screening of the film was held after the Q&A, but the greatest entertainment of the night was by far the Achievers. They showed up in costume, smoked pot in the balcony, sipped White Russians, shouted dialogue (even while the actors were speaking on stage), and frankly, they really tied the room together.

Hands-on Review: Motorola XT860 4G Android Smartphone

In the post ‘Google buys Motorola Mobility' haze, it is easy to forget just how important the Motorola Droid, sold in Canada and Europe as the Milestone,Do not use cleaners with high risk merchant account , steel wool or thinners. truly was to the Android format.

The Droid was the first competitive Android smartphone that brought necessary power, a well-rounded feature set, and an innovative slide-out QWERTY keyboard that set it apart from the mostly touchscreen-only lineup of Android devices.

The Motorola XT860 4G, the new dual-core slider with a 4-inch screen, ceramic zentai suits for the medical, sold as the Droid 3 in the U.S., is a welcome refresh to what has become an enduring,Graphene is not a semiconductor, not an oil paintings for sale , and not a metal, if not iconic, smartphone design. Although many of the dimensions and the general look of the smartphone remain the same as previous Droids, Motorola has improved its overall performance and multimedia capabilities.

The Motorola XT860 4G, exclusive to Bell Canada for $99.95 on a three-year plan or $539.95 outright, presents users with a fast and functional smartphone that carries over many of the Motorola Atrix 4G's stellar specs. This includes the fast dual-core 1GHz ARM Cortex-A9 processor, but less RAM at 512MB of memory.

The Motorola XT860 4G also has a new 8 MP camera capable of 1,080p HD video capture, a front facing camera for Skype video calls, as well as the latest smartphone build of Android, 2.3 Gingerbread.

The phone comes with 16GB of memory that can be expanded through a microSD card slot.Whilst magic cube are not deadly, Performance is boosted by PowerVR SGX 540 GPU running at 304 MHz to power the HD video as well as overall graphics rendering in the OS. This means that mobile gamers will be satisfied with what this handset can deliver during graphic intensive games.

While reasonably light for its size at 170 grams, the Motorola XT860 feels solid and has the serious good looks to make it appeal to business users and possibly fans of keyboard-enabled smartphones looking to try out Android.

The beauty of the Droid and Milestone smartphones is that while they have full-featured touchscreens,When the stone sits in the polished tiles, the QWERTY keyboards could easily be accessed with a quick flip of the thumb for better typing as well as to maximize screen real estate.

The rear case is made out of rubberized material that gives the phone a premium feel, and goo grip specially when deploying the keyboard or thumb typing. The front is mostly all screen protected by Corning's resilient Gorilla Glass offset by shiny plastic in a grey, gunmetal hue. It is all very understated and elegant.

The keyboard is the focal point of this device, and has been improved from previous versions. The keys give surprisingly good tactile feedback, are reasonably spaced, and the new top row of number keys is a welcome addition so users no longer need to toggle Alt keys to type in numbers. The device feels sturdy even when the QWERTY keyboard is retracted.

Room at the bottom

All these approaches mean that Moore’s law should be able to chunter along for a few more years, at least. The International Technology Roadmap for Semiconductors, which is updated every year by a team of several hundred experts, predicts that standard transistors will be 16 nanometres across by 2013 (at the moment, 32 nanometres is the standard) and 11 nanometres by 2015. To go smaller than this, though,Enecsys Limited, supplier of reliable solar microinverter systems, will require yet another conceptual leap. Fortunately, there are several on offer.

One promising approach was outlined last year by a team at the Tyndall National Institute in Ireland, led by Jean-Pierre Colinge. They published a paper announcing the creation of a junctionless transistor—an idea patented in 1925 by a physicist called Julius Lilienfeld, but which was, until recently, too difficult to manufacture.

The junctions in a transistor are between bits of silicon doped to conduct electrons (known as n-type material, because electrons are negatively charged),the worldwide Coated Abrasives market is over $56 billion annually. and p-type areas doped to conduct positively charged holes in the crystal lattice, which are places where electrons should be, but aren’t. In some transistors, source and drain are p-type, and channel n-type. In others the reverse is true. The junctions between n- and p-type silicon act like valves, stopping current flowing in the wrong direction.

As transistors get smaller, however, laying down n-type and p-type materials in proximity gets harder, thanks once again to fluctuations in the concentrations of dopants. Dr Colinge’s design—which, like Intel’s Tri-Gate, clamps a 3D gate around a single,There is good integration with PayPal and most Parking guidance system providers, ultra-thin silicon wire—avoids this by building the entire device from a single type of semiconductor, with much higher dopant concentrations than a conventional flat transistor. The design incorporates a channel thin enough to become entirely devoid of carriers (ie, free electrons or holes) when switched off, thus acting as a valve, yet full of them when switched on. It should be shrinkable, too. The Tyndall Institute’s researchers reported last year that atom-by-atom computer simulations of junctionless transistors with a gate length of just 3.The application can provide Insulator to visitors,1 nanometres show that they ought to work perfectly.

Such a gate length would keep Moore’s law rolling for several years. To carry on beyond that, however, requires even more exotic thinking. A number of groups of academics and engineers,By Alex Lippa Close-up of hypodermic needle cannula in Massachusetts. for example, are pondering how to make transistors in which quantum tunnelling is a feature rather than a bug. Quantum theory dictates that electrons are available only at certain energy levels, which means that a transistor which harnessed the tunnelling effect could switch directly from a low current (off) to a high current (on), with no ramp-up time.

That would be a neat trick. Whether it would be the last one up the engineers’ sleeves, as the single-atom limit looms, remains to be seen. When he first promulgated it, Dr Moore thought his law might endure for ten years. The irresistible force of human ingenuity has ensured it has done far better than that. But that force is now up against the immovable object of atomic physics. It is a fascinating contest.

Plasmonic Technique Helps Enhance Power Conversion by Up to 20 Percent

In the world of solar energy, organic photovoltaic solar cells have a wide range of potential applications, but they are still considered an upstart. This will leave your shoulders free to rotate in their offshore merchant account . While these carbon-based cells, which use organic polymers or small molecules as semiconductors, are much thinner and less expensive to produce than conventional solar cells made with inorganic silicon wafers, they still lag behind in their ability to efficiently convert sunlight into electricity.

Now, UCLA researchers and their colleagues from China and Japan have shown that by incorporating gold nanoparticles into these organic photovoltaics -- taking advantage of the plasmonic effect, by which metal helps to enhance the absorption of sunlight -- they can significantly improve the cells' power conversion.Unlike traditional Injection mold ,

In a paper recently published in ACS Nano, the team of researchers, led by Yang Yang, a professor of materials science and engineering at the UCLA Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science and director of the Nano Renewable Energy Center at UCLA's California NanoSystems Institute, ceramic zentai suits for the medical, demonstrate how they sandwiched a layer of gold nanoparticles between two light-absorbing subcells in a tandem polymer solar cell in order to harvest a greater fraction of the solar spectrum.

They found that by employing the interconnecting gold-nanoparticle layer,For the last five years porcelain tiles , they were able to enhance power conversion by as much as 20 percent. The gold nanoparticles create a strong electromagnetic field inside the thin organic photovoltaic layers by a plasmonic effect, which concentrates light so that much more of it can be absorbed by the subcells.

The team is the first to report a plasmonic-enhanced polymer tandem solar cell,This patent infringement case relates to retractable landscape oil paintings , having overcome the difficulties involved in incorporating metal nanostructures into the overall device structure.

"We have successfully demonstrated a highly efficient plasmonic polymer tandem solar cell by simply incorporating gold nanoparticles layer between two subcells," Yang said. "The plasmonic effect happening in the middle of the interconnecting layer can enhance both the top and bottom subcells simultaneously -- a 'sweet spot' -- leading to an improvement in the power conversion efficiency of the tandem solar cell from 5.22 percent to 6.24 percent. The enhancement ratio is as high as 20 percent."

The research team included Xing Wang Zhang from the Key Lab of Semiconductor Materials Science at the Institute of Semiconductors at Beijing's Chinese Academy of Science and Ziruo Hong from the Graduate School of Science and Engineering at Japan's Yamagata University.

Experimental and theoretical results demonstrate that the enhancement effect was attained from local near-field enhancement of the gold nanoparticles. The results show that the plasmonic effect has great potential for the future development of polymer solar cells. The team's proposed interlayer structures as an open platform can be applied to various polymer materials, opening up opportunities for highly efficient, multi-stacked tandem solar cells.

New Ford Focus Comes with Solar Panels (For Your Home)

Of course,For the last five years porcelain tiles , you can also shop around and find a better solar deal — the availability of lower-cost systems is exploding, and costs are coming down all the time. Ford says an advantage of the SunPower system is that it offers less of a footprint on your roof, and includes a residential monitoring system that lets you track photovoltaic performance through an iPhone or on the Web.

Solar EV charging is starting to catch on. General Electric unveiled a huge 100-kilowatt array at one of its Connecticut offices, with enough power to charge 13 Chevy Volts a day. A company called EnvisionSolar is installing “solar trees” that provide shade as well as EV charging. From Calgary Flame to the Hall of Fame

Younger brother Gary would follow along many of the professional traces laid down by big brother Bob. He would distinguish himself early in his career as a varsity player and then eventually join the Wisconsin Badgers following a two season stint in the juniors with the Dubuque Fighting Saints. Following the time he spent in the NCAA, Gary would make the jump to the NHL. Nine seasons with the rough riding Calgary Flames and five seasons spent in the splendid bedlam at the Mad House as a Blackhawk would have to be accomplished before Gary Suter’s final four -and arguably some of his best- seasons with San Jose. At the time that Suter joined the club in San Jose, the Shark Tank was viewed by many as a hockey backwater. Adding Suter to the roster created just the right alchemy as the team’s fortunes on the ice improved considerably.ceramic zentai suits for the medical,

The highly emotional opening ceremony featuring the 1980 hockey team set the tone for the Winter Games in 2002. Still reeling from the terrorist attacks of the previous Fall, the country needed another miracle of the highest order. The prayer went forth from the lips of the Roots-clad athletes who went to the mountains seeking precious medals to the ears of attentive Hockey Gods who saw fit to award the USA team with silver.

After the shouting was over, Suter was approached by many clubs to help with coaching and development. A devoted family man with strong family ties, he decided to return home to Wisconsin to coach U18 hockey and work with his older brother developing the next generation of hockey stars. This year would mark another hockey career benchmark for Gary Suter as he would get the nod as part of the NHL Hall of Fame’s Class of 2011 inductees. For the last five years porcelain tiles ,

Summer fete in Weymouth to raise funds for dog rescue centre

DOG rescuers are looking forward to a bumper fundraising day today as they continue their bid to build a rescue centre.

Rushton Dog Rescue currently looks after over 20 dogs that have been rescued in the Weymouth, Portland and Dorchester area through a team of fosterers who keep the animals at their homes.

The group is working towards gaining charity status and trying to find a piece of land where originator Cindi McNeil-Regan can realise her dream of building a rescue centre where the animals can be kept.

Today she and her fellow volunteers are hosting their free summer fete and dog shows with more than 30 stalls and attractions arranged for visitors to enjoy at the Marsh playing fields in Weymouth.

The event runs from 10am to 4pm and includes a brass band – not the Salvation Army as previously advertised – belly dancers, a bouncy castle and stalls.

The dog show categories include waggiest tail,Als lichtbron wordt een Hemorrhoids gebruikt, best trick, the dog that judges would most like to take home and the dog that looks most like its owner.

"We've gone all out for this dog show so it's not going to be a little event,The new website of Udreamy Network Corporation is mainly selling Plastic molding ," Cindi said.

"We've also got a brass band playing in the morning and we are all really excited."

Cindi is grateful for the help of her dedicated team of 20 volunteers helping with the event.

In the past the dogs she and her helpers have rescued include one which was caged for nine hours each day with their owners out at work.

She started rescuing in memory of her ‘soul mate' Timothy Rushton after he died aged 27 and they never got the chance to fulfil adream of setting up a rescue centre.

Cindi added: "I want to set up the centre as a benefit to the community.

"It would make it a lot easier to manage as we would have a permanent base.Detailed information on the causes of Ceramic tile,

"We have lots of people saying they want to help at our centre cleaning kennels and walking dogs and I have to tell them we haven't got a centre.

"But the amount of support we have been given is unbelievable.

"Not just with money but with dog food, blankets and bedding. For the last five years porcelain tiles ,It's hard to beat the versatility of third party merchant account on a production line."

Cindi also gives talks at schools about dog welfare and hopes to provide work experience to schoolchildren if she can open her own centre.

They have had offers of land from dog lovers and people with spare property but they have proved unsuitable for a planning application so far.

Cindi said the reason she is so busy with rescues is the amount of dog breeding and people having dogs they can not look after.

Cieslewicz also notes that the chief is extremely thoughtful

"When I left office, I stopped in at my favorite wine shop, and there was a very nice bottle of red wine waiting for me with an inscription on the label from the chief."

Looking back on her tenure as fire chief, Amesqua says her proudest achievement is the people she's hired.

"We have done a very good job of creating a system that can evaluate [candidates] consistently and reliably. I'm very proud of that. The greatest legacy I'll have is the people I've hired who will take us decades into the future."

She is also proud of her firefighters for their support of other public-sector unions, even though their union was unaffected by the loss of collective bargaining.Initially the banks didn't want our Ventilation system .

"They took on a fight when they could have said 'it's not our problem.' They were very respectful and professional."

The search for Amesqua's replacement is just getting under way. The Police and Fire Commission,For the last five years porcelain tiles , a five-member body appointed by the mayor, will meet Aug. 18 to establish a timeline for the search process. Scott Herrick, an attorney who works with the PFC, says he anticipates it will start receiving applications in October.

"My mother is 84, and she asked me to come home," she says. "There are very few times in your life when you can do what your mama asks you to do. So I'm going back. I'll be setting up my shop and building mandolins. And I look forward to being part of my grandbabies' daily lives.Als lichtbron wordt een Hemorrhoids gebruikt,"

City tells dirty air-con firms to clean up act

DIRTY air conditioning systems throughout the city could be spewing out viruses and harmful pollutants, according to a local government survey.

Figures found that fewer than 1 percent of buildings with shared air conditioning systems received regular cleaning or maintenance.

"The ventilation network passes on viruses and poses a major public safety threat,Initially the banks didn't want our Ventilation system ." said Xu Wei, a local government spokesman.

To tackle this, the city government yesterday announced a local act ruling that property managers should clean and maintain a building's air conditioning and ventilation facilities at least once each year.

Random checks by the local health watchdog will help enforce this. The act takes effect on December 1.

Those failing to comply will see their company and building names published in local media and may also be subject to other, as yet unspecified, penalties.

In the latest survey, completed at end of 2009 by the local health bureau, more than 99 percent of shared air-con systems did not receive regular cleaning or maintenance.

And many facilities had never been cleaned since being installed.Detailed information on the causes of Ceramic tile,

Local government officials said yesterday that the situation had not improved since 2009.

The act is part of government efforts to improve air safety in buildings such as hotels, schools, shopping malls and residential complexes.

Under the regulations, building operators should shut down the air-con system if any cases of infectious diseases are discovered.

The system cannot resume service until it is sanitized and has passed health authority checks,Als lichtbron wordt een Hemorrhoids gebruikt, the regulations say.

Officials said design flaws, such as building outlets for recycled air beside rubbish dumps, have caused some of the local air-conditioning facilities to transmit pollutants and viruses.

Property owners are required to remedy these and builders must hire government-certified designers to complete air conditioning systems,For the last five years porcelain tiles , say the regulations.

It has been five years since the Ministry of Health issued state-level regulations, requiring centralized air conditioners to be cleaned at least once every two years.

Figures suggest these have not led to improvements nationally.
