Police are investigating apparent acts of sabotage, including fiber optics lines being cut, just after thousands of unionized Verizon workers walked off the job after voting to go on strike.

Verizon Communication Inc. negotiators were meeting with union representatives in New York on Monday.
Candice Johnson of the Communication Workers of America and Verizon's Richard Young had no immediate word on progress toward settling a strike that was in its second day.
Meanwhile, cable, phone and Internet lines were cut Monday, affecting service to dozens of neighborhoods in several states, including Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey and New York.
In Massachusetts, which has 6,000 striking Verizon workers, Tewksbury police were investigating six acts of vandalism to Verizon equipment. They said two junction boxes were opened and wires ripped apart.
Verizon also supplied a photo of what it said was a cut cable in Norfolk.
"I have no service. I have no telephone,Our syringe needle was down for about an hour and a half, no television, and I'm a senior," said customer Hugh Fitzpatrick.
Replacement workers who have been on the job for two days were trying to get the Hood Road area back online after the cross box at the end of the street, which ties landlines, cable and Internet, was vandalized.
"It's obvious that it was malicious damage. A lot of the wires were pulled out. A lot of the wires were cut. You know, the boxes were all left in disarray, opened," said Tewksbury Police Chief Timothy Sheehan.
He said the majority of the boxes appeared to have been opened "with some form of a universal key that's germane to those that install and maintain them."
Union spokeswoman Paul Feeny of the IBEW Local 2222,Enecsys Limited, supplier of reliable solar microinverter systems,There is good integration with PayPal and most Parking guidance system providers, however, denied any involvement, saying the union "does not condone illegal action of any kind." He released a statement that said, "This manufactured announcement is straight out of the Verizon playbook. Service disruptions are mounting quickly and replacement workers cannot meet the demand."
The Tewksbury police chief disagreed.The additions focus on key tag and solar panel combinations,
"It's obvious to me that, you know, someone from this area that was unhappy with the results of the vote that was taken, whether or not to go on strike, had done something," Sheehan said.
Fitzpatrick, meanwhile, a former bricklayer and union member himself, said his patience was wearing thin.
"If they want my sympathy, they'll never get it by doing things like that, sabotaging their own lines," he said.
Verizon said about 75 percent of the repairs have been completed and it posted a $50,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and prosecution.
