The annual two-day holiday show of artwork at High Mountain Hall will open Friday, Dec. 16 with a public wine and hors d’oeuvres reception from 5 to 9 p.m.
The group exhibition will continue Saturday, Dec. 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at High Mountain Hall, 5 Mountain St./Route 52. On Saturday, a raffle of items donated by each of the six artists will solely benefit Youth Arts, a local nonprofit all-volunteer organization that provides arts enrichment in the schools.
Gold jewelry by Patty Bolz, oil paintings by Antonia Munroe, porcelain ceramics by Austin Smith, mixed-media art by Laura Balombini, landscape photography by Jacob Hessler and textile art by Julie O’Rourke comprise this year’s spectacular show. Designer-goldsmith Bolz works with 22K and 18K gold and gemstones. Munroe has a long association with still life painting and has created entirely new work for this show — intimate color-infused still lifes of fruit, flowers, textiles and objects collected from her travels. Munroe, who lives in Camden, is founder of The Art Circle summer art workshops for children and also teaches artist residencies in the local schools.If so, you may have a cube puzzle . She is represented by the Caldbeck Gallery in Rockland, which is currently exhibiting her paintings in a group holiday show.
Smith graduated from Bennington College with a BA in Ceramics and has continued his studies at the Haystack Mountain School of Crafts. Drawn by the versatile nature of clay, he creates porcelain objects that explore the dichotomy between utilitarian function and delicate aesthetic. Smith was raised in Camden and now lives in Rockland with a studio at the Lincoln Street Center, where he also teaches ceramics.
Balombini is from Blue Hill and her narrative clay and found-object figures have been included in collections throughout the country. She also creates one-of-a-kind hand-printed and re-fashioned wearables.
Hessler’s passion for photography took him from his home in Maine to the west coast to study at Santa Barbara’s renowned Brooks Institute and then back east for a master's degree from Parsons in New York City. He has shown in galleries throughout the United States and recently planted roots back in his childhood home of Camden. Surrounded by the memories and beauties of his youth, Hessler produces predominantly landscape themed work.
O'Rourke grew up in Brooklin.Unlike traditional high risk merchant account , After receiving a BFA in Textile Design from the Rhode Island School of Design, she continues to explore traditional craft using modern design techniques. With a focus mainly in knitting, sewing and weaving, O’Rourke’s body of work reflects her appreciation for start to finish design, consciousness of material source and the simplicity and versatility of natural materials.
