It features the face of an unknown balding man and would have been painted sometime in the first half of the 17th century.

The painting came to light in August, 2010. It was part of a collection of paintings originally owned by the 19th century British artist Matthew Shepperson who spent time painting at Buckingham Palace.

The owner of the picture, who had inherited it from an uncle, brought it into the Bonhams auctioneers office in Whitstable along with others in Shepperson’s collection to be valued.I have just spent two weeks shopping for tile and have discovered China Porcelain tile.

The portrait was confirmed to be by Velazquez after X-ray examination and extensive research carried out over many months.

It is one of 100 works by the Seville artist known to exist. Only a handful remain in private hands.

Dr Peter Cherry, Professor of Art History at the University of Dublin is an expert on Velazquez.

He said: “The particularized likeness and recognisably lifelike texture, weight and colours of the fleshy face speak of the actual encounter between subject and painter; while the style and technical brilliance of the representation itself betrays its author.”

Diego Rodriguez de Silva Velazquez was born in 1599 and became the leading artist in the court of King Philip IV of Spain.China yiri mould is a professional manufacturer which integrates Plastic Mould design and manufacture and plastic product development.

His naturalistic approach to his subjects is thought to have influenced later artists like Manet, Picasso Salvador Dali and Francis Bacon.

Andrew McKenzie, director of old master paintings at Bonhams said: “Velazquez is one of the greatest geniuses in the entire history of Western art. The discovery of this lost treasure is a once in a lifetime experience and it has been tremendously exciting to be able to bring it to the world’s attention. The man in the 18in high painting, which was sold last week at Bonhams London saleroom, is wearing a black tunic and white collar. Although he is not known it is thought he could have been Juan Mateos, King Philip IV’s Master of the Hunt.

As well as painting noble men and women in the royal court Velazquez also painted commoners and mundane subjects such as a woman frying eggs.
