Thai traders could see a huge opportunity to export rubber to India, where an economy growing at 7% annually is leading to increased car sales and lifting up demand for automotive tyres.

"Despite the peak rubber production season falling between October and February and favourable weather conditions, the domestic availability of rubber is a key concern for the industry," said Mr Kanwar.

"With new capacity creation in the tyre industry and limited growth in rubber area under cultivation, the availability situation is feared to worsen in the foreseeable future."

Since 2007-08, rubber consumption in India has outstripped production. The country has also become the second largest consumer of rubber in the world after China, while it still ranks fourth in production.

Mr Kanwar said the tyre industry was in the process of investing nearly $2.5 billion. To help increase competitiveness of the industry, the ATMA has asked for waiver of customs duties on raw materials that have no domestic production. These include butyl rubber, currently taxed at 5%, SBR or tyre-grade rubber (10%), EPDM (10%) and polyester tyre cord (5%).

Experts say there is little doubt about the long-term growth prospects of car demand in India _ Asia's third largest economy _ where a population of 1.2 billion dominated by young people with rising salaries and aspirations will likely make it the second-largest market in the world in 25 years.

Though residents are envisioning a potentially less-than-white Christmas here, the city is busy looking into a new cost-effective way to remove snow, whenever it comes: just melt it.

Ben Dow, director of operations of Fargo’s Public Works Department, is meeting with a consultant next week to determine the feasibility of buying or renting a snow-melting machine, otherwise called a snowmelter.

Dow said Fargo has been looking at getting a snowmelter for about two years, but last year’s 88 inches of snow forced the city to evaluate new options for getting rid of excess snow – particularly downtown.

Terry Dwyer, Trecan’s general sales manager, said the machines use about 1.5 gallons of diesel fuel to melt one ton of snow, and have a lifespan of roughly 35 years.

Today, there are more than 800 of the company‘s machines in use in North America, he said. Airports typically have the largest use for the machines because they have nowhere to put their snow.

Larger cities such as New York City, Chicago or Philadelphia already own several snowmelters, and Dwyer is seeing their use expand to smaller locales.

“When cities have issue with space, or the cost to truck the snow is too expensive, that’s when melters come into play,” Dwyer said.

It may seem a bit last-week, but I’ve just spent the morning going over the photographs from last Thursday’s National Poetry Day Live event at the Royal Festival Hall, run by the Poetry Society with the Southbank Centre, and now in its third year. The pictures answered a question, even while they posed it: What does poetry look like?

Sometimes, mostly in books, it even does look like a very serious man in a tweed jacket. It does look like lots of different things. So I hadn’t been wondering till I saw the pictures.

But National Poetry Day is different. It has an agenda: it’s for everybody, not just the usual suspects. Schools get involved, so the Clore Ballroom was packed with kids – interested, happy kids – and grannies, and people in between. It’s a drop-in-when-you-can day, so people wandered in for their lunch breaks, or bunked off a bit early and came along for the poet they were most interested in. Some Foyle Young Poets of the Year, who had just been awarded their status upstairs that morning, stayed for the main event. I ran into someone who’d been having a meeting. The place was packed – people were sat on the floor, because the chairs had run out – and there were extra rows of chairs set up in the non-sunken bit.

So that’s one way poetry looks: it looks like 1,000 people at any given point in a whole afternoon, jammed into the most central open public building in London. We thought this only happened in the sixties! It was like Woodstock! Who says we can’t pull ’em in?

(Huge respect for knitting here: I still think it’s amazing that you can take what’s essentially a piece of string and make something intricate and lovely, and warm and cosy, out of it. A knitted poem seems to me possibly to possess some kind of magical powers.) Derby winner stabled in collection founded by 'mystery man of the British turf'

The Bowes Museum at Barnard Castle has backed a winner with its latest acquisition, an oil painting of a successful racehorse owned by the museum's founder, John Bowes.

Bowes, still universally recognised as one of the most successful stud owners and racehorse breeders of the 19th Century, was a keen racegoer known as the 'mystery man of the British turf'.

Each year Hall produced paintings which were engraved and published to commemorate the winners of the Derby, St Leger, Gold Cup and other classic races. A regular contributor to The Field, The Sporting Magazine and the Illustrated London News, he was in effect a sporting journalist in paint.

Daniel O'Rourke was under 15 hands high, yet Bowes' trainer John Scott, and Butler the jockey, thought highly of him. And although he'd run a disappointing race in the 2000 Guineas, they held fast to their opinion that he stood a good chance of winning the Derby.

The day of the race dawned with incessant rain, which didn't lift until just before the start of the race – yet despite this and the horse running at odds of 25–1, well down in the betting against 26 contenders, he justified the trust put in him by gamely battling it out to cross the finish line half a length in front of his nearest rival.

The Museum's Keeper of Fine Art, Emma House, said: "Whilst equine portraits regularly come up for sale, many of them were produced quickly after the finish of a race and therefore lack the quality of this painting. Hall has taken great care in the depiction of the horse, portraying in great detail Daniel O'Rourke's markings and likeness. The portrait details of Frank Butler and Mr Markwell are also particularly fine.

A.L. school board approves $15 million bond sale

The Albert Lea school board approved the sale of alternative facilities bonds and Qualified Zone Academy Bonds for the mechanical systems upgrades within the district at a special school board meeting Monday evening.

From learning how to time things to understanding the nuances of each class and their roles when working together to learning to react under pressure when things get difficult, players build skill and confidence while grouping. This is how you learn the little intricacies of Aion's group mechanics. All the players who speed-level under the power of mentors are going to find themselves at a disadvantage when trying to do high-level content. And who really wants to group with a healer or tank who doesn't have a good understanding of his own class? Few have the patience or desire to group with a clueless character.

Basically, the mentoring system -- if used irresponsibly -- is going to lend to an upswing in incompetent players. And what's the point in having more companions to play with if you would rather gouge your eyes out with a kerub then group with them? Before long, you are subjected to people whining in LFG chat that they can't find groups, followed by the threats of rage-quitting and general trollery. Oh, the joy.
