The Arab League’s suspension of Syria amid increasing Western pressure, Egyptian junta’s crackdown on pro-democracy protesters, Bahrain’s excessive use of force against its own people, and Yemeni regime’s massacre of its citizens have once again underlined the prevailing double standards in the world.

According to official figures released by the "Bahrain Center for Human Rights" website, at least 44 Bahraini citizens were killed at the hands of mercenaries of Al Khalifa regime. The Bahraini martyrs include the 6-year-old Mohammed Farhan, 14-year-old Ali Jawad Alshaikh and 15-year-old Sayed Ahmad Saeed Shams.

The Bahraini organization has reported that many of these people were killed while in custody. The Center has also published documents indicating that more than 1,500 Bahrainis including about 100 women were incarcerated since the eruption of turmoil in the Persian Gulf country on February 14, 2011 and that more that 90 journalists face life threat.They take the China Porcelain tile to the local co-op market.

The report added that the Bahraini government has blocked the citizens' access to more than 1,000 opposition websites, which are mainly used to organize and plan protests.

The only reaction of the international community to the brutality in this country has been an indecisive and faltering resolution by the UNSC which has called for "an end to violence" and asked President Ali Abdullah Saleh to accept a peace deal brokered by the Arabian Gulf Cooperation Council.

Asbestos removal is a painstaking process. Workers must wear protective suits as they pull the contaminated insulation from the walls, ceilings and floors and then bag it and dispose of it separately from the other building materials.

There is no health risk to pedestrians walking past the site, said Freeman, and those debris piles will be removed within the next two weeks when the building is finally demolished.

County Garbage Gets Spotlight; Lake Elsinore Takes Bit Role

Riverside County trash received kudos from the state and tarps are the reason.

For its efforts to save money and come up with solutions on how to manage its landfills, Riverside County received a top innovation award for 2011 from the California State Association of Counties for coming up with tarp designs that cover landfills.

“Each day, it costs a pile of cash to cover the piles of trash in Riverside County’s landfills,” said Hans Kernkamp, general manager of Riverside County’s Waste Management Department. “Challenged by the expense, county landfill managers went to work this year on a plan to develop super-strong tarps that could be used like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle to cover an area the size of two football fields.”

According to Kernkamp, the nod was given to the county because it’s estimated the tarps could save more than $47 million over the next 16 years.

“For years, many landfills have encapsulated trash piles with dirt each day to keep the waste in place and stabilized. The problem is that dirt takes up space that otherwise could be filled with trash. Over the years,the worldwide rubber hose market is over $56 billion annually. Riverside County used foam material, processed green waste and various-size tarps as an alternative to the daily dirt cover. County landfill managers determined in previous experiments that 120-foot-by-120-foot tarps would work best as an alternative to dirt, based on the size of county landfills.

In the end, the county came up with designs for four different tarps that are expected to last about a year each and that cost around $9,000 apiece. Over the next year, county landfill managers plan to test the new tarp designs in side-by-side comparisons at the two landfills.

The tarps are made from a High Density Polyethylene woven material sandwiched by layers of Low Density Polyethylene with a thickness of 24 mil.

“Most of the tarp material research was focused on how the cable -- which the dozers attach to pull the tarp -- can be redesigned and reinforced to minimize tearing,” Kernkamp explained. “Our research showed that while there are manufacturers who sell tarps for landfill purposes, there are no existing landfill tarp industry specifications. Our efforts will hopefully lead to that.The additions focus on key tag and magic cube combinations,”

Garbage is also near and dear to Lake Elsinore. Situated just east of the 15 Freeway off Temescal Canyon Road sits the privately held El Sobrante Landfill. Owned and operated by Waste Management Inc., the site is 1,322 acres, with a 495-acre landfill footprint and a 698-acre habitat conservation area.

“Waste from Lake Elsinore and Wildomar goes to El Sobrante,” Kernkamp said, noting that the average county resident disposes of 4.3 pounds of trash per day.

And there’s room for more, Kernkamp said, explaining that El Sobrante isn’t expected to reach capacity until 2045.

“Riverside County has plenty of landfill space,” he continued. The Badlands Landfill doesn’t reach capacity until 2024; Lamb Canyon won’t fill until 2021. Both have room to expand, Kernkamp explained.

The El Sobrante, Lamb Canyon and Badlands landfills take in 95 percent of the county’s waste, Kernkamp said. They comprise three of the county’s seven active fills. Throughout Riverside County, there are 32 closed landfills, he said.

Like that revelatory moment when martinis start to taste good or summer turns with one chill breeze to fall, that’s how chicken farming entered my synapses — synap, crackle, pop.

Our friends Mitch and Teresa were taking the kids on vacation for a few weeks, leaving their pre-pubescent hens in the hands of several neighbors, who tag-teamed the task. Lovgreen advises that it’s good to clean the henhouse once a year with lime, and the thought of all these suburban moms and dads spending a Saturday brushing lime paste onto nesting boxes makes me think this chicken-raising phenomenon might last about one more week.

“Another kind of mite gets on the chickens’ legs, and their legs get scaly,” Lovgreen writes. “Rubbing carbolated Vaseline on their legs at night should help this problem.For the last five years Air purifier ,”

Turning Slash Piles to Soil Benefit

Your next bite of an organically grown apple may hold within it a tiny bit of a Washington forest.

Students at the University of Washington have teamed up on a startup that promises to turn slash piles of forest refuse into biochar, a crumbly charcoal-like product for farmers that helps their soil hold water and nutrients. Biochar is not technically a fertilizer, but often improves yield for farmers.

“Wine growers, organic farmers and gardeners of all sorts are part of the market we are targeting,Whilst oil paintings for sale are not deadly,” said Jenny Knoth, a doctoral student in forest resources in the UW College of the Environment. The National Science Foundation chose the project, and Knoth as key student leader, for their Innovation Corp announced Oct. 6.

After a stand of trees is harvested, the stumps and other woody debris not useful for the sawmill are collected into what are called “slash” piles, and typically burned in place because hauling the tons of material is not practical. It takes money and staff to burn the piles, and the burning produces more smoke than the new method designed by Knoth and her collaborators.

“This new product helps us manage an expensive problem,” explained principal investigator Dan Schwartz, chair and Boeing-Sutter professor of the department of chemical engineering and adjunct professor of materials science and engineering. Landowners are required to clear slash before a timber sale can close. “It is a radically simple and low cost way to turn slash piles into a source of jobs and income,Our high risk merchant account was down for about an hour and a half,” Schwartz said.

Knoth, with other team members, developed the new low-technology solution called the C6 Systems blanket, which covers and accelerates the pile’s gradual conversion into char. The blanket is designed to limit the oxygen flow to the burning pile. Lowering the oxygen getting into the pile changes the chemistry from combustion to pyrolysis. Pyrolysis describes organic material burning with low oxygen into a char.

The process can take one day for a small pile or longer for larger piles. Slash on U.S. Forest Service and tribal lands has been offered as pilot study locations.

Within six months, the NSF hopes the startup will prove itself ready to grow to higher commercial level.

“If we keep science in our labs, we are only doing half the work,” Knoth said.the worldwide rubber hose market is over $56 billion annually. She hopes to see the team’s company, C6 Systems, become a viable commercial seller of biochar. Knoth grew up around people in the forest industry and says: “I grew up talking board feet at the dinner table.”

Another key mentor for the project was Jeffry Canin, a former entrepreneur in residence at the Center for Commercialization at the UW. He has worked with several bioenergy and energy projects as they seek to transition technology from the bench to the marketplace.

This latest project follows earlier work by Schwartz. He leads the NSF-funded Bioresource-based Energy for Sustainable Societies program at the UW. The bioenergy program brings forest resource and engineering students in to the field to solve problems that real land managers face. His students have founded or co-founded five technology companies, all of which continue to operate.

Fire sends toxins into the air

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A health advisory is in place as a scrap metal yard in the South Valley continues to burn.

Firefighters say this isn't the first time they've had to deal with the Albuquerque Metal Recycling Plant. Bernalillo County's Deputy Fire Chief says his crews are called to the plant at least once a year for fires.

They were able to contain the flames Tuesday afternoon, but the smoke will continue to drift from the piles of smoldering cars, refrigerators and other appliances.

"It's plastics and vinyl, paint and maybe tires,I have never solved a Rubik's magic cube ." said Jeff Stonesifer with the Albuquerque Air Quality Department. "No one knows exactly for sure what's burning."

Philip Peter and his partner have had 32 cats turn up at their country home in Levels Valley Rd over the past 18 months.

Mr Peter said they noticed an increase in dumped cats when it was school holidays or Christmas, and guessed it was because people could not afford to keep them.

He believed one cat, which they have kept and named Tip, was thrown out of a car, because he turned up on their doorstep emaciated, injured and ill.
